I bought an intel 480gb ssd a little while ago and while gaming sometimes I get weird bsod warnings about a watchdog timer. I have also created two partitions One for boot and the other for games. Could the partition be the cause of it? I have also checked the firmware and it seems to be the latest so I doubt its windows 8.1 compatibility issues. Any help would be appreciated.
My guess would be that it's driver related, check here to see that you have the latest Intel Watchdog Timer Driver.
I've downloaded the latest version of the intel toolbox and it says its the most current fw as of the toolbox version. The firmware also says 400i and not numbers. Is the watchdog timer a seperate driver? I can't seem to find anywhere to download it from.
For now I'm going to try running the diagnostic stuff within the intel program.

The link above is for the Intel Watchdog Timer Driver, I can't say for sure if it's the latest version, but I would suggest setting a restore point, downloading and installing the latest version from the link and seeing if that fixes the problem.Originally Posted by outwar6010

Chances are you are running the Microsoft drivers and not the Intel drivers. Have you tried the Intel Driver Update Utility?

Try the driver first, it is by far the simplest thing to try and if it doesn't fix the issue it at least eliminates the drivers as a possible cause.

Theres wasn't any links to the driver on that page. I've tried that intel utility and it didn't pick up the ssd. One thing that I've noticed within intel toolbox which I found odd was that the secure wipe was greyed out.
lol. I just checked the page again and it shows a whole list of drivers, showing version numbers and release dates plus which version of Windows they are compatible, when I saw that I thought these might help, I didn't notice that the section where the download links should be was actually blank, so sorry about that, try this link to see if that helps instead.
There's no driver on that link either. Lol I'm starting to think there's a vast conspiracy going to the very top; filled with people trying to stop me getting this driver.
IDK it seems like it should be straight forward enough but for some strange reason you are getting an error for a driver that just doesn't seem to exist anywhere.
I just spent about 30 minutes googling this and have found various random threads with things like updating the nVidia drivers on an Asus Laptop to installing the preview release of Windows 8 fixing the issues but none of those sound like reliable solutions to me.
Open up your event viewer and look through the error logs to see what that shows you, to do that:
Hold Windows key and X to bring up an Administrative tools menu
Press V to launch Event viewer
Once the event viewer has loaded you should be able to see the Overview and Summary section in the centre column of panes on your screen, in the Summary of Administrative Events section there will be a list of categories with the first 2 event types listed as Critical and Error, if you go to Critical first and click on the + symbol you'll be able to drill down in to your event logs and find the exact error messages that are generated from your blue screens.
Post them here, google them or do both if you like. It might be checking any that are not directly related to your SSD drive in case it's something else that's causing the error and the SSD is hanging as a result of that.

I didn't see anything that stood out. I had no critical's either which was odd. I have loaded up the latest nvidia drivers(also those optional windows ones) and have decided to just use it for boot and see how it goes.
