    Error Message

Ok, I have AT LAST got hold of a 939 pin Athlon (32000), got an ABIT AV8 motherboard and 512mb of PNY PC3200 memory.

Put the whole lot together and was amazed when it booted first time no problems, lol.

I went for Fail Safe BIOS settings just to be careful and Windows started loading.

Got to the sign on screen then it crashed.
Tried again, signed in this time, got to my desktop. And it crashed.
Have worked out that it happens about 5seconds in to Windows loading.

I get the good old Blue Screen and a message saying that Windows had to stop... blah blah blah
Starts dumping memory to Hard Drive and I get an error message saying....

    STOP 0x0000007F (0x0000000D, 0x0000000x 0x0000000)

I'm guessing its the RAM but I have no idea why or how to fix it.

Am not a newbie, but been out the hardware game for a bit and am genuinely stuffed !

Make sure your cpu is correctly pasted and ram is correctly fitted it should be ecc registered i think. then check your bios settings and re-install windows.

May be something to do with hdd, Is the hdd newly formatted for the 939?

If not i suggest you take all the data you need off it and format the hdd in the 939 pc, should sort it out.

If it's a new motherboard, then you should reinstall Windows. You could also try Memtest to see if it's a memory problem.

    What was the error message?
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOR_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    or
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
are common ones. I had no end of trouble with those and it turned out to be overheating...

might be wrong....but i think only the socket 754s needed registered ram, the socket 939s use the normal stuff...i think

I thought that Socket 754 uses normal RAM, but can only run it in single channel, Socket 939 uses normal RAM, and can run dual channel, but Socket 940 needs registered RAM.

    Ok, it gets wierd now....

Ran Memfast, had no probs there.

Remembered that I'd been sensible and stuck a working but blank install of Windows on a spare HD. Tried that and it all works fine !

Ran Windows in Safe Mode on the existing HD again and it booted no problem... installed the new M/Board hardware and asked me to reboot. Then crashed in the same place ! There are no other error messages, just the Stop one I had before with all the numbers. It looks like a format is my only option, but it would be nice if anyone can offer some further help...

(ps, thanks for everything so far tho guys, you're all lifesavers !)

Did you try uninstalling the old drivers?

I personally would just reformat - it's always best to do it when you use a new motherboard.
