reversing win7 creating public folders everywhere

Something weird is going on with my machine. I had a shortcut in C:user\account\documents pointing to a separate hard-drive (in this case M:\user account\documents.

Under Win7 (plain) this worked fine, and the default documents was on c: for rapid access on the SSD, with the option to navigate to the slower HDD for older files/once complete etc.

Since updating to Win7 SP1 recently it has decided that the M: location is now a public documents folder, and more annoyingly when you navigate libraries -> documents goes straight to M:\user account\documents completely ignoring C:user\account\documents altogether.

Does anyone know a simple way of fixing this?

It also made the M:\music folder a public folder for all users - which it is not meant to be. Why is it suddenly doing this? I also have an N:\ with similar music folder for another user and their collection is not suddenly public. Really confused!

You need to check the directory permissions, they may have been reset by the installation of the service pack. You may also need to recreate the shortcut.

the shortcut is still there. It's why windows has taken to navigating to a completely new destination that baffles me. And why it considers everything public all of a sudden on a storage drive that is not part of the system drive or file system windows should know about.

Yes, it might be, but try deleting it and re-creating it. Where is the drive that Windows file system shouldn't know about?

In the directory permissions, is "Everyone" included? If you allow public folders / guest access, this could be the problem.
