Just updated my version of .NET using windows update.

I use XP home.

The machine boots fine, but as windows starts to load into the welcome screen the computer just switches itself off.

Can anyone help?

Does the exact same in safe mode and when using the repair console from the XP install disc

Overheating?
Check the heatsink is seated correctly.
I know your not a n00b mg but we all have to check these things

issue was resolved, the bios had gotten reset, dunno how and the "shut down computer if fan not detected" was on
