I've got an Outlook addy but I still use my hotmail one, it all goes to the same place, so no worries.

    Re: Hotmail changed again ???

    Revive!

I don't know if it's just me, but Skype keeps logging on every time I open up outlook.com to check my emails.

Even though some years ago I explicitly deleted (or was it 'unlinked' my Skype account - not that I had myself opened it to begin with), MS thought they'd open it again and make it integral to my hotmail account.

It's not just annoying me, it's annoying others who use skype and happen to be in my address book - they keep getting log in alerts every time I open up outlook.com.

After some research it appears MS won't allow me to disable automatic log in and I can't delete the skype account they made for me, without also deleting my hotmail account.

If it weren't for the fact I've had my hotmail account for decades and a large proportion of my online presence is linked to it, I'd delete it and rather have nothing to do with MS at all.

Looks like I'm going to have to set up email forwarding to forgo the outlook.com website from now on.

What a pain in the ass.

Used Outlook 2010 for a little bit.
Ended up using the Hotmail sigh!

And, Skype has been ruined! You can tell Indian developers were working on the new version. It's full of Bollywood gifs!

Technically they didn't open it again - they've simply syndicated skype logins to your Microsoft account. It's no longer a separate service; skype is part of the outlook.com offering. if it offends you, just set it to always show you offline, then no-one will bother you on skype? Again, free service, so you get what they want to give you...

EDIT: also, why not just use an email client rather than the website? It's easy enough to set one up...

It boggles the mind, but there really is no option to set Skype to always show offline or 'invisible', the advice MS tech support gave when I asked about such a feature was to to manually change my online status every time I log in to the outlook website.

I occasionally need to use the web interface when I'm using a machine that's not my own. A such, I only noticed this Skype auto sign-in thing when I was staying over at my parents during the last holiday period.

MS can stuff it with their 'free' service. I'm going elsewhere.

Youre annoyed because a free messaging service shows you online?

Also from what I can see Skype has to have a plugin enabled in the first place on webmail. You physically have to select and download the applet.

    Re: Hotmail changed again ???

Skype just appeared some years ago, I never opted for it, can't get rid of it.

Yes I'm annoyed. Free or not, a 20 year old email address isn't something I can just stop using over night.

I'm about to wrap up my work to go to bed, I fire up outlook to check my personal emails, I now how to have choose whether to reply to the IMs and call requests I receive or ignore them. On more than one occasion, I replied with my copy and paste "please block me on Skype because outlook etc.", I then get called on my mobile phone because my friends think I've been hacked.

Then there are some of my less technically competent family or friends who constantly ask, "why do I keep signing on and off Skype? Stop, it's annoying."
