Weird Win7 image thumbnails problem, they keep vanishing !

This is a realy weird one, I cant fix it by any of the so far found solutions.

I have LOTS of NEF and CR2 image files on my data drive, its a 1TB drive and only 525GB is used. Ive installed the latest codecs from Nikon and Canon.

When I view a directory with say 200 NEF images the thumbnail generator runs and makes some thumbs, then it looks like it runs over them again, and makes them invisible, with a blank thumbnail. Same with Canon CR2 files. The only ones NOT affected are JPGs.

If I hit refresh, some more thumbs get added, but I have to click it 10-20 times to grab all images as thumbs.

Has anyone got a fix please ? Ive done the usual stuff, this is not fixed by clicking "view thumbnails not icons" etc.

What is the "usual stuff" you know better than that David

I had the same issue with my Tiff/Tif files.

You can either try sagethumbs as it is free but only pick the formats you want it to take over, I did find this a bit buggy in my case.

    This worked for me

A nice polite post with the file type you are having problems with will result in a custom reg file posted up within 48 hours!

FastPictureViewerCodec pack may also sort it but you have to pay for that after the trial

Daft question but you did try to change the default program it opens with 1st?

Not even sagethumbs sorted it And the "usual stuff" is all the stuff about view as thumbnails not icons, default open with etc, done all that. Its down to the specific codecs I think which handle the NEF and CR2 RAW image files from Nikon and Canon respectively. Ive tried removing all codecs and reinstalling, but its the same, its driving me nuts.

Well in the end the thread I linked earlier was my answer. Should work for Windows 7. This was the only comprehensive registry file I had rather than a couple of lines from others I found.
