    Question virus damage

My other halfs boss asked me to help her with a comp problem. She had some kind of virus which I removed.

Now IE cannot find any pages, all not found. The connection does work you can ping google fine and download files at full speed(512Kb ADSL) but not access the web

She can access web pages though MSN explorer but this is very slow as well.

So i'm thinkin the virus has messed something in the registry up if so any ideas

    Many thanks for any advice.

    Hi neillybob,

You're right about a virus being able to break your internet connection, and they're not the only thing that can do it, either. Quite a lot of today's malware/spyware can do so, too, and the best you can do is ask at the right place for help.

    Let's try this first.
You need to run a command.
Click Start-->Run. Then enter "cmd" (minus the quotes)in the box and click OK. That will put you at a command prompt. Now enter "netsh winsock reset" (again, minus quotes). Press enter. Close the DOS window and reboot the computer. That should fix it, hopefully.

If this does not work, go here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and download a copy of LSP-Fix. Read the documentation before running, then proceed as instructed. If you can't get there yourself, have someone else get a copy for you, save to disk, then load and run on your PC. If you ever have similar trouble again, grab a copy of this program before commencing virus removal. That way, you have the tool for the job at hand.

There may be more to do, but let's get this done first.
