Thumbs down Local shop ticks me off!

hi..... i've been saving up for pc parts for a new pc..

I have all the parts... i've got...

    -Amd Athlon 3000+ Skt 754
-1GB Geil Value PC3200,DDR400 with Heatspreaders
    -160 GB Maxtor DiamondPlus 9 ,7200RPM
    -Sony CD-RW
    -Pioneer DVD-ROM,Region Free
-Galaxy Bubble ATX Case -Modded to black from Silver....
    -WinPower 400W PSU
    -Z-board at the ready
    -Abit KV8 Pro

Now then...i bought my CPU+Mobo from a local shop (www.ctech2000.co.uk)
They've been in the Retail box ever since i bought them.. (Mobo-late Sept + CPU-xmas of last year)

I get all my parts together and happy as anything to get it running.....
then.... My Mobo is faulty.... kept looping at the Memory Test in POST...
so i took the Mobo back 2 C-Tech..., they tested it for me and according to them it isnt faulty....

So- i asked them 2 test the CPU because i had tried my HDD,RAM,DVD +CD in my other pc.....and a different GPU and a Different PSU...

I've had 2 chase them up each time they said "we'll call u tomorrow"....

Any ways-chased them up last Friday..... they said that my CPU is fine, but the Mobo is faulty and their sending it back to Abit for further testing....

so i have over £600 of PC parts doing naff all.... and i'm gonna have 2 wait 28 days to get a replacement

The sad but seemingly true fact that most local PC shops don't seem to know hardly anything about PC's

Well to be fair - you can't expect an instant swap out for a motherboard which has sat around for around 5 months - they do have the right to wait to see what the manufacturer or distributor says - you could have fried it by overclocking. If it was a week or a few days - then you could expect an instant swap out.

Totally - just they don't know that, and to be fair - they are acting IMHO totally fair.

I think they could have tested it quicker - but they did that for free so

Sorry to hear about your mobo issue.

But I must agree with David, they don't know what you've been doing with the board. You tell them it's been in the box.. how can you prove it?

RMA's are annoying, but at least your not going to have to buy a new one yourself (unless of course the manufacturer says it aint faulty..... hopefully that is not the case).

Local shop IMHO apart from a few are hopeless, they know little about computers or alternatively they know loads and use that against customers. IE baffeling some less techinical client with baddle to get them to buy more.

I had a friend who was nearly ripped off by a company up in the north east.. he bought all the components from one seller at a computer fair. The system was an AMD based system using the K6 3 chips if you can remember back 4/5 years! Some of these chips when they were first released didn't have support until you updated the mobo's BIOS... basically the company claimed that he broke it until i stepped in a banged a few heads..

Moral: Stick to your guns, wait for the RMA to be returned and test asap!

Good luck, and let us know what happens
