Recommended computer techs for an insurance report

    Hi guys
I've recently moved back to the UK from Aus, and our entire shipment was not only packed badly, but incurred large amounts of damage.
As part of that, I need a technician's report on my two servers, and my desktop PC
Is there anyone you chaps can recommend?
My dual Xeon supermicro Plex server is overheating (not that they don't have a tendency to do that already) and my M4000 card is hitting about 85 deg C while idling. I've replaced the thermal compound, but it certainly wasn't running that hot in the height of summer in Sydney. My desktop PC had it's front panel completely ripped off (managed to reinsert all the pins on fan controller which was pulled out, but the USB 3 and USB 2 ports are knackered) and I've not even bothered trying to power on the 1U Dell server

I'm obviously not allowed to write my own report, but is there anyone floating around here who has a) done one before, and b) wouldn't mind writing an honest assessment if I send through some photos and temperature logs?

    Cheers

Saracen, Zak, Cat all spring to mind, plus the Scan guys might help for a small fee (Im guessing here !)

Re: Recommended computer techs for an insurance report

It was many years ago, but the one time I went through this the insurance company was calling the shots. I could either get three quotes from repair companies of my choice, or I could drive to their approved repairer. The approved repairer wrote a report at the insurance companies' expense which listed which parts needed replacement. The list included not just the parts which were broken but a couple that I knew damned well were fine, but it was their rules so they sent me a cheque for the amount on the report and I fixed the machine myself. Clearly their trusted repairer didn't know what they were doing with PCs, but they did smooth the process

So I would ask the insurance company what they will accept. I suspect they will want quotes on company headed paper though.

Thanks guys - I’m waiting to hear back from them - they don’t want to use their assessors (as the claim is based on negligence on their side)
I had unbolted the two servers from the rack, and asked them to pack each separately as I wasn’t taking the mini rack with me - and they just wrapped everything together - inside the mini rack.

Hi guys - yeah looks like they are now going through insurance route. I will reach out to Saracen, Zak and Cat to see if they can do something - if that fails, I will reach out to the Scan team to see if they can recommend someone

If it is insurance work then I would expect the Scan team would want you to send the boxes in so they can send them back working at the insurer's expense. That's kind of the point. But the insurance company will expect to go through what they consider a trusted third party for at least the assessment even if they end up handing you a check for the damage like they did with me once I asked for money instead of a repair.

You should be able to find local repair places, including mobile IT companies that will come to you.

Yeah - I've had no luck getting any recommendations, and the three companies I've spoken to locally haven't impressed with their knowledge of diagnostics
If anyone here knows of anyone good down Wokingham/Bracknell way, I'd appreciate a recommendation.
