So what do i need for 1440p or 4k screen to output using these specs?

    Hi all,

    These are my current specs,

    AMD Ryzen 5 - 2400G
    MSI TOMAHAWK MAX B450
    Corsair CMK16GX4M2B3000C15R Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz C15 XMP 2.0
    ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB M.2 SSD
    1080p benq monitor via HDMI

Now with this PC I cannot use my QNIX QX2710 LED 27" WQHD 2560x1440p monitor , all i get when putting it in is different colour screens and then all mixed colour screens ,i tried via hdmi and hdmi/dvi cable so I am thinking will it even output to this monitor cos I was thinking of getting LG 27UL600-W 27" Class 4K UHD IPS LED Monitor with VESA DisplayHDR 400 ?

My last pc had a discrete GPU with dual dvi ports ,so am I stuck without buying a gpu ? Thanks in advance for any help.

EDIT - whis me lucky as I am gonna try this tomorrow http://chang-gu.blogspot.com/2014/01...over-hdmi.html

    Good luck

If I'm reading that correctly it sounds like an overclock, which if you are getting funny colours when you just plug in normally then that doesn't sound promising.

HDMI and DVI-D are closely related, and I get the impression that most DVI ports these days are really just HDMI signalling over the DVI connections which usually works but it might be that your monitor it *really* wants proper HDMI. That would be unlucky, and I would probably want to try it with a modern video card before investing money in even a cheap one.

TBH putting the money towards a more modern monitor sounds like the better plan.

Are you that space constrained? If you are only watching videos then something like this might work well: https://www.ebuyer.com/914020-lg-43u...ay-43um7500pla

Re: So what do i need for 1440p or 4k screen to output using these specs?

Well the cheapest would be to stuff your old video card in there and decode in software. Have you tried that? Your new CPU has a *lot* more floating point grunt than the old 955BE you had in the old rig, just down to whether the fan noise during software decoding is acceptable.

Edit: I did post a link to an RX550 in your other thread. I believe a GTX1030 would work as well, and you can get them slightly cheaper but they tend to have either small fans which tend to make a horrible high pitched whine, or are fanless which I have had bad experience with overheating and dying after a year or two if you actually use them in any way so I would tend towards something with a big heatsink and fan on it. But in both cases, if you can borrow a card to try first to make sure that monitor actually talks to a modern card that would be a good idea.

Make sure any card you get has dual-link DVI-D on the DVI port. Cheap cards might just be single link.
