Outlook 2019 won't open...

I went to check my emails this morning, and Outlook 2019 won't start. I get the usual blue splash screen, but then the program fails to load - no error message either. I've tried using the 'Repair' options in Add/Remove programs (both the quick & the online options), but that didn't help. I tried starting Outlook in Safe Mode and this time got the error code 0x426-0x0. A search for that code just gave some generic error info. Before I backup my .OST files and re-install Office 2019, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? Until fairly recently I was using Office 2007 & I never had a problem like this in over a decade!

That is strange as I had the exact same thing happen yesterday with Outlook 2016.

The splash screen and then nothing, I used repair and disabled all addons.

An "online repair" was done which basically just reinstalls it and still nothing.

What fixed it for me was scanpst.exe and used that to scan the pst file

I am guessing there is a scanost.exe file as well

Should be in the outlook directory somewhere

check windows update in settings panel. see if there's any pending updates.

dad had similar problem a week or so ago but with outlook 2016. installing the stuck updates, think it was a cumulative one for .NET(?), that installed then outlook worked.

Good call, things did go wrong for me around the time of a .net update, but even after the update and multiple restarts it still didn't open Outlook. Though could well be the issue

Are you definitely using OST files?
They're normally associated with IMAP or Exchange where technically you'd have another copy of everything

Exactly the same happened to a friend of mine yesterday, tried a repair, tried updates, tried everything, no dice, then today, poof, started working again all by itself..

Thanks very much for the feedback guys. It did occur to me that it might be an update issue. I also had a couple of .NET updates pending, but after the update the problem remained. Thanks for the suggestion to use scanost.exe, I'll give that a go next.

I think Outlook 2019 uses .OST files for all types of email server configurations - when I upgraded from Outlook 2007 I had to import my .PST files rather than copy them straight over. I might be wrong though.

It's very odd that a few of you have had problems too - but then again, not unlike Microsoft to screw up their own programs!

I'll have a fiddle and report back!

Well, that didn't take long - I just thought I'd try starting outlook & it fired up straight away! The gremlins are obviously busy today! Thanks again for all the help everyone!

odd. so my dads outlook problem a week or so ago wasn't this, but something else entirely.. huh, weird timing
knowing my luck he'll install those tuesday updates but not the fixed update and complain at me its broken again.
