    No power to system

Another odd problem to resolve! ....here's the current situation:

Ryzen 2600 with broken VCC pin / Ryzen 2300X no damage - both known working in other systems
    Wraith Stealth Cooler
Gigabyte A320M-H motherboard - brand new sealed, but bought 2nd hand (box says Ryzen 3000 ready)
    Corsair LPX 2x4Gb DDR4 3000 / 2x 8Gb Generic DDR4 2666
Seasonic Focus Gold 550W / Old (known working) Corsair VX450 from my old PC
    HD 6450 1Gb GPU
    480Gb NVME SSD

So I built the system but no storage drive, the 2600, Seasonic PSU. System shows no signs of life - nothing to indicate power. I try the following to remedy it:

    Reset CMOS
    Replace battery
    Switch to 2300X CPU
Both RAM, no RAM, 1 RAM only, either slot (was using Corsair modules)
    Switch PSU to VX450
    Remove GPU
Short the power pins on the motherboard directly (bypass the power button in case it's faulty)

    Nothing works.

Next, I have a 2nd mobo/cpu/ram combo of an i5 6500, H170 and 16Gb DDR3L - I reuse the Seasonic PSU, Case and all associated cables. LED on the mobo lights up straight away, and the system boots when power button. Seems the PSU and ccase cables are fine. Given it doesn't work with or without RAM, or with either CPU I assume it's a power fault on the motherboard and order the exact same board off eBay to switch it out and try and rebuild the system again.

I've just rebuilt the system and again I'm having the exact same issue - zero evidence of power reaching the system. I tried all the same steps above, but no success again. It's made me wonder if the original motherboard was actually fine and the issue lies elsewhere.

Given I'm getting no response at all, even though the PSU has been proved to work and other elements of the build has previously worked, I'm at a bit of a loss what to do next. Anyone got any thoughts?

Have you tried a different GPU?

    Edit!!

It seems downgrading the BIOS might work:

    Re: No power to system

With or without a GPU installed the system shows no signs of power, and it's my regular test GPU so it's known good and working for years. My best guess at this point is it's some bizarre BIOS thing not liking 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs, which is all I currently have unfortunately.

    Re: No power to system

A quick update on this one, I got hold of a Ryzen 1600...boots up without issue. So this is definitely a BIOS related issue it seems, relating to 2nd gen Ryzen CPUs and the Gigabyte A320M-H

It was installed with F50 BIOS on starting for the first time, which is relatively new and is listed as supported 3rd Gen CPUs (F40 BIOS onwards), I've flashed to the original BIOS, then F32 (last BIOS before 3rd support was introduced, and also recommended to update too before going for any later BIOS on the official website), and then F53 (latest BIOS). None of these changed behaviour, it will only work with the 1600.

Very odd that this appears to have been the issue of 2 seperate boards as well (although I don't have the original motherboard anymore to confirm the 1600 would post in it, but I highly suspect it would have - it was a brand new board).

In that link it said F20 worked with a Ryzen 5 2600.

    Re: No power to system

Right, I think I might have an explaination of whats going on. I bought an MSI B450 Mortar Max at Auction, didn't show any signs of life and put it to one side. During testing I've just seen if I can get it any life on it with a Ryzen 3600, the previously mentioned 2600 and 2300X. Never had the 3600 working, unlike the others. Accidently fitted the 1600 in it instead of the 3600, trips immediately which suggests theirs an electrical fault. Removed the 1600 and noticed the heatsink was warm (ie. very warm to the touch) so it must have been receiving power.

Put the 1600 in my test system again with the Am320M-H and it exhibiting the same behaviour as the other CPU - I suspect the MSI B450M Mortar has been frying CPU as I've tested them in it So yes the 2600 / 2300X were working but have been on the shelf for a while and I must have subsequently fitted them to the Mortar board, then when no activity happened just took them out and assumed they were still fine...

Now it looks like the Ryzen 1600 has been killed as well...bad luck I guess.

This sucks man. If it's any good to you I have a new in box 2400G that is just gathering dust. PM me - if I need to I can make a proper classifieds thread later I guess.

Just spotted the offer Millenium, that's very kind, but ended up sourcing a Ryzen 2700X for a bargain price of £70
