    Tech Challenge

ROG Strix B760-F - Not working, spares or repair

Comes as is per the photo with the fan, screws etc. My son tried to install the motherboard himself, it didnt fire up and he left it as is. We do not know if its faulty and is presented as not working. No returns. There is no SSD or memory with this sale.
    Any idea what happened?

    Sorry for the res loss.

Err, a million things, bad cpu, bad board, bad psu, socket or component damage during install. Impossible without getting hands on or at least better pics of the board and socket

    Re: Tech Challenge

Had to search for the motherboard to see what it was, definitely a square peg, round hole situation!

    Re: Tech Challenge

Something looks off with one of the heatsinks next to the top PCI slot, and looks like some sort of debris in the CPU area. Otherwise I'm blind.

    Re: Tech Challenge

Even so, why would that stop the board from starting? The board doesn't know its the wrong CPU cooler, I mean won't do very much cooling but if its plugged in its just going to show as connected. Or am I missing something?

    Re: Tech Challenge

What CPU would you buy to get the AMD boxed cooler? Would that work on a B760?

    Re: Tech Challenge

Ah yes ooops. Should have spotted that, I was so transfixed on the board, knew it was gonna be staring at me.

I've yet to experience AM5, but assume it visibly now compares with intel so possibly easy to get confused by for novices?

I suspect that the CPU is also wrong, the pix are low res so no idea what state the sockets in, so while putting the wrong cooler on would in theory not 'break' things, even if not all of the mounting holes lined up somethings gonna go mardy...

Is that scorching on the 24 pin power socket? Looks odd to me. Wonder if it smells funny
