Is there Quick Windows updates without ie ?

Hi i recently went over to Firefox and Disabled my Ie browser, but if i need to check for Win updates i have to reinstall ie just to check if there is any Criticals availiable which is a bit of a nuisance as most times there is no updates that have been released! Is ther a way that i can update via Firefox? If not is there a site which can tell me new critical updates have been relased so i can turn ie on when needed?

There is no need to disable IE. Re-enable it and just use FF for browsing. Running both at the same time is no problem, there are no conflicts. Some sites might not work fully on FF so it's handy to have IE still and of course it's required for windows updates.

Cant see MS allowing firefox to do windows updates anytime soon although they should.

You can't disable Interenet Explorer, its part of Windows.. pop up the run box and type in "iexplore" or open recycle bin or my computer and use the address bar to visit www.windowsupdate.com

I can see the point of moving away from IE. But alot of people seem to think its some nightmaish virus on there computer. Dont like it just dont use it. Its part of windows and if have that much of a problem then Linux is screeming to you. Join me i need no IE, im your freind.

AoL sheesh.... their programs screw with everything a bit like BT's. I'd never install anything from those two companies, seen too many problems with other people computers.

I hate isp's that make you isntall software. IE will still be on your system, and not the infected AOL take on it. As far as i know you can only use IE and not even browsers build on it. I use Maxthon an IE based browser, and i cant windows update in that.

Good point but that means turning on Bckgrnd Intlgnt trnsfr as well as the Win updts which are both hogs! What i'm gonna do is run this link (below) which also gives critical updates of other important progs such as; Norton/Adaware/Spybot and of course Win Updts!

what you read about XP tweaking ISN'T ALWAYS TRUE!

You have a pretty high spec Pc , so I really dont hink you need worry about extra services , they'll make naff all difference in reality.

GFI Network Security scanner will also do it ( and push out the updates if you set it up correctly )
