    Dell monitor broken

My dell monitor suddenly died today. It was fine then i came back to the pc and moved the mouse to clear the screensaver then the image dissapeared and then it made repeated loud popping noises (like high voltage arcing). Everytime i turn it on it just starts popping so ive left it unplugged.

Its a few years old, not sure how many, and its a 17" CRT with a sony trinitron tube. Do you think dell would be able to help me at all or should i just start looking for a new monitor?

Well I find the Dell customer service really good so you should really ask them first of all if you haven't already. However since its a few years old you may want to find a new one, but LCD's are constantly dropping these days it shouldnt be too bad.

Might be a lame excuse for an upgrade

Well i might make it an excuse to get a tft, last time i needed a monitor LCD's were absolutely awful but i gather they are infinately better now.

I dont know if im just being stupid, but i cant figure out how to use dell support via the website unless you have bought a whole system or a select set of parts. Any ideas?
