Can anyone help?

whenever i shut down my computer it is hit or miss as to weather or not it will turn start back up, 9 times out of ten it crashes half way!!! I have discorvered that if i load up in safe mode then restart it works, but loading safe mode only works half the time as well, anyone got any ideas??

quite often shutdown problems are profiles specific - easy to test create a new blank user - and ten restart 10 times each time logging in with that user. If that is successfull then its most liekly a profile issue with your main user and we can go from there.

If it still crashes with this one then thats more of a mystery. Could possibly be a sound file cauusing problems - used to get that alot in the first version of xp. Also it could be to do with your pagefile - have you set it to delete upon logoF? Also seen this problem when a hard drive had faulty sectors.

Are you receiving any errors (BSOD) on shut down or is it just hanging? I've seen a number of similar problems which MS have addressed ont their site.

I presume you are using windows xp with service pack 2 installed.
