I'm sure there's an obvious fix, but since using a light pro with my laptop, it assumes it's still attached and I have to switch crt/lcd control back to get the picture - v annoying... can anyone help? cheers

Depends on your laptop (not given us much info to help you here)
but in the display options you should be able to choose "mirror" or duplicate display.
Sounds like your laptop is one of those designed for a docking station.

Hmm... if you right-click on the desktop, then go to properties you should be able (under register "extended") to select a second monitor in the drop-down menu... Choose then the option "expanded desktop" or something like this... then both are working and the primary device should be your monitor...
I'll do it this way with the notebook at work... I've got an ATI graphics chip on it.
EDIT: Oh... I forgot... you can only use this option if your graphics driver it supports... You should check the DELL homepage for a newer driver if it doesn't work how I've described it.
Is it Fn+F8 for the LCD\CRT?
yep - but i've just got the new drivers which seems to have fixed it - yea!
