When I scroll with my mouse, my computer makes funny noises?

This seems really strange, but as I scroll down/up a page in anything (IE, Word etc...) by using the mouse's scroll wheel I get a funny hissing noise out of the computer. Not the speakers, and I have not yet been able to tell exactly what the noise is coming from, and it doesn't happen when moving the mouse, or by dragging the slider at the side of the page either.

Should I be worried about this?

    Thanks,

I get a similar problem when pressing some keys on the keyboard; I hear a small 'beep' which is barely audible, but appears to come from the laptop motherboard, not the speakers. Maybe its just one of those things

my laptop does it when scrolling with the touchpad and when minimising windows. i havent noticed it with my graphics tablet thru the laptop, although that's not saying it isnt there.

I forgot about this thread, but I still hear the noise, and what's more annoying is that it is louder than my music at a lowish volume that I listen to it at in the late night.

But I think it's probably my hitachi drive, and certainly only caused by the scroll wheel on my wireless usb mouse.

    I had this too.

Mouse was the Logitech mx500 RF, form the desktop deluxe, pluged in using the PS" ports.
    - Mine seamed to be coming form the montier (TFT)

Same problem - it does seem to come from the harddrive but can't be sure. I thought it was just my poor computer not put together well enough!

ps Xcelsion, does your beeping come when you press a few keys at once, if so then it's probably just the motherboard speaker complaining because the keyboard can't cope - used to get this playing CS when crouching and moving diagonally (I think right was ok but left wasn't for some reason)

i have a theory on this, now what happens is when you scroll, you put hudge demand on the video memory, your sound card isn't well protected enough against this. If you stick a scope on the sound output, u will see it jump as you scroll (when playing no sound) I played around with the size of scroll and it effected it.

i bought that machine a nice USB 2.0 sound card with a good DAC. Problem got solved.

what sound cards are they? Are they onboard gfx too?

I had this problem as well. In the settings of your browser turn off smooth scrolling (advanced section in IE). Mine went away after that.
