    Megaworks 550's hissing! Annoyin!

    Hey guys,

Well in the post today came my x-fi extreme music and my 550's

Installed everything, turn on the power to the speakers, and i get a hissing noise. Even if the sub isn't plugged into the pc i still get hissing. So i'm guessing its not my snd card. using the lil remote to mute the speakers does mute music etc. But doesn't mute the hissing.

Has anyone had this problem? Or know of a solution.

I thought it was the power plug but i swapped it and its fine. All the wires are correctly in place. dagnabbit!

    Thanks

How loud have you got the volume turned up? Some speakers will make a hissing noise if turned up loud - try turning the volume down low and see if that cures it.

With creatives if the volume on the speakers is up high it does hiss, this happened with the DTT3500, DTT2200 and the InSpire 3500's, but it only does it if your sound card and your sound settings on Windows are incorrect. Check you have the right levels and you are not turning up the speakers to compensate for this.

Hey guys, Thanks for the replies

Like the manual says hissing can occur if the volume on windows etc. is on 100% but they are on about 40% and the speakers are on fairly low, even if i turn the volume all the way down to nothing they still hiss. When i mute using the remote, they still hiss.

Edit i just found this.. http://forums.creative.com/creativel....id=6997#M3438

    that would make sense...
