    new mobo,gfx,ram, = no power

right, i have just fitted new, abit an8 ultra, power colour x850pro( i wonder where that cam(e from!) and 2 * 512 cosair 4400. The 5vsp led comes on, the post indicator reads F but when i press the power on button....nothing, no case fans, nothing. i have re-checked the fp101 header, and i cant see anything obvious wrong there. the only other thing is its connected using a 20 not 24 pin connector (the 4 pin is connected as well)

    anyone any ideas?

    What PSU are you using?

If you are getting absolutely nothing when you push the power on button then something is seriously wrong (stating bleeding obvious!)
Try setting it up as a barebones install outside the case in case you have a shorting issue?

Is it a new case, or a reused old one?

the only other oddity is i had to use the lotes backplate from the msi as the screws on the ht101 cooler didnt reach the thread on the abit one, but it has a plastic backsheet so i cant see any shorting issues there

When you press the power on does the POST LED display change to anything - like 0.4?

Don't suppose that you can try another HSF with the original backing plate?

Checked all jumpers & connections I presume?

unfortunately its the only a64 compatable heatsink ive got, and as i said the screws are a fraction short to engage in the original backplate, thats why i wondered what would happen if i tried to start up without a cpu in there, as i didnt really want to try with the cpu in with no heatsink on

I've actually (unintentionally) run an A64 with a passive heatsink when I forgot to plug the fan in...
    It should throttle anyway.

Speaking of which where are you powering your CPU HSF from?
uGuru will shut the board down if it doesn't detect an rpm from the CPU header (until you disable that if required).

its connected to the 3 pin cpu fan header.

the problem is i cant fit any heatsink (as ive only got the ht101 ) and use the original backplate.

think im going to go to bed now & hope its better in the morning!

are you likely to be on the boards tomorrow? as from what i have seen on the forum you seem to be the Abit Guru! (sorry pun intended!)

O.K. looked at that thread, had the front off the case and the power on switch seems to be just two wires, so I cant see that the common ground has any effect on this, not that my knowledge of electronics is ths good! And I assume if I remove the common earth, nothing else will work.
