    GFX glitches and crashes

Whenever Im playing a game for a while I start having problems, red splotchy artifacts on the screen and weird texture problems. When playing a Source game the HDR usually messes up at the same time, so everything gets nice and dark. Sometimes this sorts itself out, other times it gets worse and eventually freezes.

usually what it looks like when it crashes

    texture weirdness

The gfx card is a Sapphire GeForce 6600GT, im guessing its gfx card problems, overheating or something? but i got this card to replace another dodgy one so was wondering if anything else could be causing this.

    cheers!

    LOL

2nd and 3rd pic looks like some cham skins for buildings to me [joke ]

if i was you-i would do a fresh install of the latest Forceware drivers[ which At the Mo are 81.95]
reinstall your Direct X 9 and reinstall games
if no luck the GFX memory is showing signs of dying....

have you overclocked the card in any shape or form ? [as in Ntools,Nvidia Forceware reg hack for Nvidia GFX drivers] also check to see whether their is a Diode on your 6600GT for temp readings [whcih shows up on my forceware 81.95 drivers] -just hit the goole to see whether it does or not

if not-try installing Speedfan- a utilty that reads the sensor from ur Mobo about temp readings- which is like to be around 3-4 degrees below proper temps -if their too high think of getting better cooling

if none of the above works- time to grab a 7800GT

just tried all that now, still getting the same problems. if i put the settings down in game it seems to happen less frequently, but will eventually still crash. the gfx core is running at 55º idle and 60º+ when i get the error, are these the kinda temps that I should be getting?

I would say your problems are almost definitely down to the graphics card overheating.

the first pic is very similar to probs I had with a dying mobo, that being said the other pictures are consistent with problems caching textures. I had a problem with BF2 doing the same and in the end I had to manually delete the optimised cache, I dont know if source has a disk bound optimised cache like the bf2 engine so cannot advise on a solution. Wot is ur card temp as shown on the forceware drivers app, the 6600 isnt a very powerfull card to be playin HDR enabled games, my 6800GT copes but does it affects fps if HDR is enabled like in the loast coast level of HL2

well i was getting problems in valves games and in BF2, and in a few other games. So im guessing its not too likely they'd all have these problems at the same time. the problem is if i go to get a new gfx card i know im gonna be more than a little tempted to upgrade the rest too. thanks for your help guys!

I would download ATI tool and install ( I Know you have an Nvidia card) and click the scan for artifacts button this will give your card a good toast up and let you see if theres problems at hardware level.

I know people may disagree with me, and i may be wrong, but i would say that does not look like a heat problem to me. Sparklies, flashing (usually green) textures and tearing maybe, but i agree that it looks more like a texture caching problem. Also as said above, the 6600GT is not really a HDR card. Also, what PSU are you using? But i think you most likely have a faulty card mate.
