    USB Reader and XP Updates

I have a Mitsumi fdd with a 7 in 1 card reader. It plugs into the normal FDD ports and there is an additional USB cable which I hook up to the motherboard.

A clean install usually finds it and it works great for a lot of the time. Sooner or later, a Windows update happens and I lose it completely. Windows stops seeing the USB drives.

Any idea how to fix short or doing a rebuild and registering my Windows again?

Try booting into safe mode and looking for it in device manager...
If you can find it then delete n reboot... Alternatively you could find it in the hardware section of the registry n delete it from there...

When you say delete the hardware section in the registry - can you be more specific? I don't want to blanket remove the USBFlags section as I do have a USB input device (Logitech di Novo bluetooth mouse and keyboard).

Basically - right now, an XP update has stopped the USB drives to be recognised. Refreshing Device Manager or rebooting doesn't find it.
