Well, you can but its against the TLA.
The CD's are not the license, its the Key on the side of the system which is.
Will i be able to get the updates! cheers

Yep you can do this as I have transferred mine from my old Dell bit by bit to my current rig...
Not sure if thats what M$ want tho
I thought Dell Windows CDs could only be installed on Dell PCs - ie they stopped you from installing it on other pcs, and while you were part way through installing it would pop up saying "this software is for dell machines only". Maybe it's changed now though?

you utter utter fool.... People like you perpetuate the myth that not applying security updates is good , then compain when they hit by vulnerabilities which hit unpatched systems.Originally Posted by Koolpc

you'll be able to re enter your serial when upgrade the OS.
there are a couple of caveats - you may want to uninstall your AV and reinstall after you have upgraded. I've done a few upgrades from home to pro and most of them have gone off without a hitch , but I have seen one that went very wrong due to a known conflict with mcafee AV.
I'm not sure why you would want to use pro unless you plan on joining a machine to the domain.
