    Converting ID3 tags to Vorbis Comments

    Hi all,

    I have a whole bunch of FLAC-encoded music files, which I created using dbPowerAmp. I realised recently that I had dbPowerAmp set to write out ID3 tags instead of Vorbis, which is usual for FLAC.

    This is causing problems with tag readers and media players that support FLAC - they are expecting Vorbis comments, and therefore read nothing.

    ANybody know of a way to convert ID3 tags to Vorbis Comments?

    Thanks!

    Tag&Rename should be able to do it. I know you can edit any ID3 and Vorbis comments inside FLAC files with it, so i would guess you can change them from ID3 to Vorbis.

    http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

    there are others that are highly recomended too, but i like the interface of this. and i can't remember the names of the others

    I think Foobar2000's masstager might be able to do it too.

    I'll give FooBar2000 a go - Tag&Rename can't do it. TBH I find Tag&Rename to be over-complicated and a little clunky. If I open my FLAC files using T&R it can't see the tags, even if you click the "id3" button. If I rename the files to .mp3, then T&R has no problem reading the tags as ID3. Which probably means there is a bug in T&R.
    However, I've not found any mechanism for changing tag type in T&R.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

    Thanks for your ideas guys - useful SlimServer link there Funk.
    Dom - FooBar's Masstagger does the job perfectly - thanks alot!

    Add the files to Foobar, open the masstagger, set "Remove field : ID TAG", and not only is the ID tag removed, but Foobar then puts ID TAG back with the correct value of "Vorbis Comment".

    Another tag question relating to Foobar:

    I'd like to modify the genre tag on a load of my classical music. I've tagged the music to make use of SlimServer's ability to read multiple values from one tag using a specified separator.

    For example:

    GENRE=Classical;Baroque Classical

    What I'd like to do is parse the GENRE tag and swap the term "Baroque Classical" around so that it reads "Classical Baroque" instead, but also leave the single term "Classical" intact. This would leave the tag looking like:

    GENRE=Classical;Classical Baroque

    (This is a very basic attempt at supporting a genre-tree).

    It doesn't matter if "Classical" and "Classical Baroque" get swapped - the order isn't important.

    I believe you can script stuff in Foobar, but I've not figured this out. Is there a simple way of of doing this?

    Thanks!

    Ah, the joy's of being a Squeezebox owner

    To be honest, I'm sure it is posible, but I have never bothered with Gentre tags. The reason being that i always disagree CDDB genre tags are added when i rip CD's and i have so many i can't be bothered to change them myself. If i was you, I would head over to the god like knowlege base that is www.hydrogenaudio.org. They also host the official Foobar2000 forum.

    I just sorted out the remainder of my tags last night and re-scanned. Album count dropped a little, but my artist count more than halved. Compilation albums are a pain.

    Anyway....i don't bother with genre tags either, not at the moment anyway. I still listen to albums and usually Browse by Artist. perhaps i'll change when i get more used to using my SBs

    I'm love fb2k, but when I want to tweak my tags I use mp3tag. Very easy to use.

    I use a combination of mp3tag and foobar. Mp3 tag is pretty good, but it doesn't do quite what I want right now.

    From what I read on the FB wiki, you can script using Tagz syntax, but its a little hard to get your head around. I'm pretty sure I can parse out the part of the genre tag I want to a temporary tag, then swap the terms around, and put it back.
