Processor Noise.

Hello,

I recently built a machine, when the processor is in use I can hear a faint beep. When I navigate explorer, upon entering a new folder I will hear a beep, the most annoying part being if I am watching an xvid movie the beep is constant throughout as the processor is permanently in use.

I make the assumption it's the processor, the noise certainly is coming from around that area. There are no obvious leaky capacitors on the board and it's 100% prime stable, it's purely the annoyance that the beep is causing there are no adverse effects on performance.

Any ideas of how i could address the beeping, whether it's electrical noise and i will have to learn to live with it or if there's a solution?

Its probably one of the chokes on the motheboard squeaking, (bits of thick copper wire wrapped round a former, either donut or pillar shaped) They often do it. A quick solution is hot glue all over it, but its at your own risk

Alternatively it could be your PSU.
My Antec TP550 do similar noise when the CPU is being loaded (i.e. higher power drain). It doesn't beep when idling but when priming it beeps like hell...

I'm aware of the beep you describe arthurleung, it isn't the psu. Herulach, thanks for your suggestion.
