Whenever I click on one, it now does nothing. It might occasionally work but most of the time I have to manually type in the web address.

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.
First try clearing out your temporary files & browsing history:
Tools -> Delete Browsing History
If you click on Tools then hover over Toolbars -> Explorer Bar, do you have anything listed in there other than Research?
If that doesn't work, then as IE7 is beta I would start by removing it & reinstalling to see if that resolves it - also remember to give feedback to the IE team
