    Use command prompt>tracert>www.bbc.co.uk

    Look at the steps (normally around 10) and see if any of the numbers in the three columns are particularly high. If they are look at the destination IP address (particularly if it's one of the first three hops) and then report it to ntl.

    I have Telewest and have experienced similar problems of late....they normally tell you nothing is wrong with their connections but if you give them a copy of the tracert it gets miraculuosly cured overnight!!

    It's not just you project187, both a friend and myself (we're on NTL) have lately been losing our connections in the middle of BF2 rounds.

    Have you done the trace route? My Ntl is usually fine for pings (roughly 30 most of the time), so i hope it gets sorted

    Start->run->cmd
    Should open up a command prompt
    Then type "tracert www.bbc.co.uk" Without the quotation marks.
    There you go.

    Normally around 10 hops from you to the BBC listed 1-10

    There ar4e three sets of numbers agains each step going horizontally across the page and an ip adress to the far right which normally has some form of identification name against it. The first three hops are normally your ISP whilst the other 7 are exchanges your line is routed through.

    Look at the first three sets of numbers particularly and see if there are any high numbers (around 30 is normal) 50-60-70's or higher.

    If there are high numbers in this first group then the problem is down to NTL's exchanges and you should contact them and complain, or at the very least find out if they are doing any work on their exchanges that you should have been notified of.

    If the high numbers are in hops 4-10 then normally these are through other ISP's exchanges (they all share some exchanges) and you can ask NTL to investigate\contact the relevant Company to sort out the problem.

    At the very least if you can run a broadband speedtest (google, there are loads for free), and it shows you are not getting the bandwidth you are paying for, you should present all this info to NTL and either ask for a reduced payment as you are not getting what they are charging you for.....(they cough and splutter a lot at this suggestion and normal service tends to resume quite quickly, or if they have a indifferent attitude to your problem, ask if they can recommend an alternative supplier who can provide a guaranteed level of service as you are thinking of changing suppliers.

    As I mentioned I have Telewest and they normally respond well to these veiled threats (of course you say them whilst smiling ) but if they don't, then see what alternative suppliers are in your area.........I understand Tiscali are quite well thought of, and I'm sure other forum members can recommend alternatives, should you have to go down that route.
