    dual soundcards

I have onboard sound and SB Audigy 4 in my rig and I was wondering is there is a program or something that allows me to have some applications use one sound card and not the other?

The reason I ask is because I have a TV hooked up to my pc and since I have a freeview card in my pc as well as downloaded movies I prefer watching it on a bigger screen. But to do this each time I would have to unplug the my pc speakers to plug in a cable to my TV. Hope that wasn't too confusing!

Its actually upto the program as to which sound device it uses, but one has priority, i belive that its the first one loaded, thats used by default.

edit: i should explain that more, in windows when you call WaveOutOpen, you can specify a device to use, or just "don't care" many sloppy lazy coders will do just that, and windows selects the most apropriate one.

So, what theanimus is saying is the easiest way to do it is in control panel and change your default waveout device.

indeed, i explained that very badly.

Some applications actually let you choose which device to use. I've some very sloppy code for an app that would let you select which soundcard a program uses. If your familuar with C (or better yeat MASM32) i can send it.

    its soundselect.exe 1 soundrec.exe

makes it use device # 1

might be, the principle i used is quite simple (override a certain api call)

but the program i made could be put into the start menu short cut for each application you want to use the "non deafult" source.

The other alternative is to simply get a double adapter and use that (I have that on my line in connection as the TV card needs one plug and so does my cable to music players (for recording purposes....))

Finally just use the better card and you won't have to change any settings even if you need to format the hard drive...
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
