Worrying phone call.

My phone just rang, I checked the ID and it just showed the number (meaning it's not recognised). I answered and it immediately started dialing, then the dialing sound changed to one which is similar to when you're dialing a voicemail. I hung up - however I'm not sure if they answered whilst I was hanging up (not entirely sure). For reference the number is:

If anyone recognises it any help would be appreciated. A google search returned nothing.

you hadnt set up callback or anything? it freaked me out the first time i tried doing that on a landline, picked the phone up and it was ringing.

It's not someone trying to call you from Skype is it? Don't the SkypeOut numbers start 0844?

I have no idea. I haven't setup callback (wouldn't know how to although it's probably really simple). I don't know anyone using SKPE either. No one would have the need to contact me via SKYPE.

my skype number begins with 0 207 because I chose a central London number

I think this can happen when the dialing computers telesales companies use screw up and there isn't an agent free to take the call the computer dialled.

Basically the computer/phone system sets about dialling a bunch of number and when one is answered, it routes the call to the first available agent. From your answer it determines whether it is a male or female on the phone, this is then on screen when the agent calls along with any other details they bought along with your number so the agent knows whether to ask if you are Mr or Mrs X.

Funkstar is correct but:
A: If there is no operator free diallers hang up, not set some wierd callback thing.
B: All the automatic diallers ive ever heard of come up as withheld numbers.

99% sure it isnt a call centre. If its important they will ring back anyway.

This just happened to me. I terminated the call fearful of it being some premium rate scam and called back from my work landline. Turns out it's some scumbag mobile phone telemarketing company. They get you to pay for the cold call that they are making. Cheeky or what? I had a missed call from an 0207 number earlier in the day which I assume was their original unwanted cold call and the second 08444 number was their underhand way of following up. Needless to say they got some abuse when I realised who/what they were doing!
