svchost is a generic holder for a large number of services, it doesn't have its own entry in the Services list.Originally Posted by danjohadley

sounds like this problem is taking up alot of time? Maybe you should just save all of your files on a other computer and reformat the one with the problem... While your at it you could try Microsoft Vista Beta 32Bit or 64Bit..............

ask Paul Adams if Vista is any good?!?!? Maybe Vista would be nice... But don't forget that betas have a lot of problems. LIKE msn 8.0 and media Player 11

only problem is, if i get the beta i will eventualy have to buy the full one which could be expensive.
Vista is not currently a platform to use if you are mainly gaming:
1. it's still beta, there are bugs present in it still
2. it's got debugging code and no optimisation yet, so it will be slower than XP
3. lots of legacy programs refuse to install or run, perform badly or crash after a short period of time
4. as the OS is beta, the 3rd party graphics drivers are also beta, so considered unstable with no support
It might be worth trying a repair install of XP over the top, and if that doesn't work then I would agree than wiping and starting over would be a good idea.
Immediately after installation do a system backup - before installing any 3rd party drivers.
As you add drivers one by one check to see if the interrupts issue reappears immediately after restarting.
Don't install the AMD "Cool'n'Quiet" software if you did this time round - I've read of people having all sorts of problems with that.
If the disk is SATA, see if there is a difference if it is connected to the nVidia SATA ports vs. the Silicon Image ones.
(My wife's PC is running XP SP2 on an Asus A8N-SLI Premium with 2GB RAM, nVidia 7800GT and a single SATA disk in the nVidia port 1, the SI ports are disabled in the BIOS.)

so if i put my xp disc in will it let me replace my operating system without loosing my files of will i have to reformat it.
A repair installation puts back core Windows files to the versions on the source disk, it doesn't touch anything 3rd party or affect services.
This fixes issues with corrupt Windows files, but drivers are supplied by 3rd parties - so if your problem is driver-related then a repair option won't help.
A clean install would be required - back up existing files, wipe & reinstall.
Probably quicker than trying to determine which 3rd party driver is causing the problem, or 2 which are conflicting.

yer i guess ill do that, probably get a copy of xp pro x86 of ebuyer for 88 quid as my copy that i have at the moment isnt exactly proper.
Try disable the IDE/SATA channels that you're not using.
My windows did the same thing right after I do SATA hotswapping with my NF4 SATA. I moved the hotswapping ports to SIL3114 and problem solved.
Looks like the NF4 chipset keep polling the SATA ports for unknown reason.
Since all my SATA ports are populated I stopped getting this problem.
