    Serious File Corruption, Please Help!!!!!

    Hi All,

I have recently suffered a hard drive crash and so used ontrack easyrecovery pro to recover the files. Now though my PST file appears to be corrupt as does a lot of my BMP an JPG images. There is a lot of important data in the e-mails and the images are of my first baby (just 2 months old) and so I will be divorced if I can't repair the corruption!

Does anyone have any ideas of how to get the data back?

    Cheers,

    James

Send the harddrive to a professional data recovery company?

It will cost a lot but at least better than being divorced

Make sure that you make copies of the PST files on different hard drive and use the copied ones to play with (leave the originals alone).

Once you've done that, thanks to Outlook's proprietary format there's not much available that you can use to recover data without spending a lot. However, you can try running a program called ScanPST that's included with Outlook (you will have to search the MS Office install folder for it).

You can also take a look at http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.htm for some additional instructions and also here: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;287497. If you're lucky, then the PST will not be so corrupted and you will be able to find some data - but like I said, only try running ScanPST on a copy of your original PST file.
I see, said the blind man to his deaf wife as he stuck his wooden leg out of the door to feel if it was raining.
