    Ipod, windows won't find it.

hello, my wife has a ipod nano 2gb, installed new itunes, and new ipod software but windows xp sp2 dosen't seem to find it, been in disk management and it finds it, so give it a drive letter and click o.k, connects sometimes then wipes all music off, windows give a noise when i plug ipod in and out of a usb port but it won't say that its there, usually it comes up with found new hardware device but not anymore. My old computer with windows xp sp1 never had a problem, do you think sp2 is the problem?

    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks.

First of all I have no knowledge at all when it comes to ipod, but maybe you could try installing itunes(I guess this is software for ipod, right?)on freshly created xp user account and see if that makes any difference? If the symptom you get is same then probably it's down to SP2 compatibility issue....but it doesn't take more than 15 minutes to try this anyway and I think it's worth a shot.

check out the Apple website. My brother had issues with this and following their 5 R's thingy it still didn't work (apparently it works for most). It did in fact turn out that he had a network drive set up that mapped to drive F (the iPod like drive E for some reason) and that was causing the problem. So i remapped the network drive to Z and it worked fine.

    Strange but true.

    try the Apple site here

Other than that, google is your friend, as usual

Ive found found that the ipod is very piky about the port u use. Mine only works on the backplane USB ports and not the multifunction device I have which incidently runs at USB2 with external hard drives. All in all its been a painfull experience due to my nano 2gb getting fubared when I use the wrong port. I had to use the Ipod Updater software to restore it to be accessed by ITunes
