Hiper 580w PSU - enough?

Probably a daft question, but I'm struggling for answers. I've just upgraded to an X1950pro from a X800GTO and, at first, things seemed ok. The first strange thing however is that my copperhead mouse has decided to start playing up in both BF2142 and CS:S, it's almost like it lines up my button pushes then spurts them out at once... kind of like a 5 second movement lag, it's very odd. If during this lag I press any mouse buttons, I'm greeted with a system beep for each push. Secondly, I've just had a proper system crash mid-game on BF2142, with the monitor switching off and needing a hard reset. Oh the joys of upgrading! First question, I take it a Hiper 580w PSU should easily cater for this system?

Christ... that puts that theory out the window What voltage are you getting on the 12v rail? Mines at 11.777, anything to worry about? 3v and 5v seem fine.

Can check later (currently at work) but that doesn't sound like anything to get worried about...

Are you getting the lock ups and mouse oddities in CS:S as well? I know BF2142 is so bug-ridden its silly......it actually has a 50/50 chance of reseting my PC when I close the demo....can't see myself shelling out for the full "experience"

Yep, no lock ups but I am getting the odd mouse behaviour in CS:S as well, exactly the same issue... an issue which I never had whilst with the X800gto, but I'm just hoping it's a coincidence. There don't seem to be any IRQ conflicts of any kind with any of the relevant hardware. One thing I haven't tried is a different mouse (the copperhead being about as buggy as an EA game), so will get the trusy intellimouse out this evening.

Try using a different USB port for the mouse. Often fixes things like that. Dont worry about BF2142 killing your system, it's just the game(the latest patch is less stable then my ex).

I have a Hiper Type-R powering about the same as you(couple more hard drives) with no problems.

Gave a different mouse port a go, no luck. Tried my trusty old Intellimouse and no mouse problems, although I'm not sure how much of that is down to the basic-ness of it when compared to the Copperhead Still system crashing with the intellimouse though - game starts to stutter, sound starts to loop then the monitor goes into standby requiring a reboot. My only comfort is that other people are reporting the exact same crash in BF forums, and are blaming it on a mixture of Punkbuster, new ATI drivers or the recent BF2142 1.05 patch. One apparent fix is to revert to the 6.8 drivers... slight problem there, they don't support the X1950pro

BF does tend to find bad overclocks faster than anything, I know. Try running at stock for a few hours. If it's still unstable, then looks like you're waiting for 6.12 drivers.

You mean my CPU overclock? I'm loathed to back down on that considering it's been fine with everything I've thrown at it for the last 14 months, but I guess it's another thing I can rule out if I try it.

Yeah, it's unlikely, but an OC'ed CPU will tire out eventually. Like you said it's just one more thing to rule out.
