Remove Antivirus from Norton Internet Security 2006

It's that time of the year again and Symantec wants me to stump up the cash for an antivirus renewal. And I ain't buying!

I am happy to give Avast! or AVG a go for free but in order to do that, I need to uninstall the antivirus component fomr Norton Internet Security 2006. Anyone know how to do this? Unlike System Works, I don't get an option of installing components - it is all or nothing!

Any ideas on how to do this would be greatfully recieved. Until then it's back to ZoneAlarm....

    Thanks!

Can't you just get rid of it using add/remove programes?

I had an OEM copy of Norton on my laptop, and it was easy to remove that way.

The Norton uninstall program treats both the firewall and antivirus as one program. there is no preference to split them up unlike Systemworks...

But yes, generally, you could buy a new version of 2007 if you wanted. I'd rather pay nothing at all and take my chances with Avast. However, it is a shame to lose the functionality of personal firewall for the sake of av updates...

Just uninstall it, and install avg and zonealarm. They are far better than norton, not mention being free! Lost count of the number of times I've uninstalled norton and found a virus.
