    Its A Sign!

My computer occasionally freezes and makes bleeping noises when I scroll . I disabled Avast and it stopped. My AV also affects DVD playback. It makes it all jolty. I think its a sign that I need to go dual core .
    With love and many thanks,

The other thing is that the reason why anti-virus is probably slowing stuff down is due to constant hard drive access, rather than CPU load (as a rule).
Either the hard drive isn't working fast enough (drivers not correct, or technology too old) or the program is simply being over vigorous about reading & writing (more likely).
I am not sure than a dual core CPU would help the situation.
Change your anti-virus. I like AVG because it's free but you have to change one of the settings in update manager to not bother you with informing you of everything that it does.
I'm commenting on an internet forum. Your facts hold no sway over me.

I used to use AVG but when I changed to Avast I had about 15 viruses that AVG hadn't found. As for NOD32. I've heard that its good but I have no money and I any money I DO get will go towards new hardware. Considering I don't really go on any stupid sites and Avast hasn't picked up ANYTHING for the last month I think I will leave it disabled. Thanks.

BTW It probably isn't my Raptor but I do have lots of really old HDs.

BlindMelon - are you a student?

If so - you can get a discount, I think you have to email their sales line now tho - it used to be on the website.

Check the scanning options - I found that the email scanner in AVG caused all manner of interference in games. I deleted it and didn't have a problem since. I don't even have email on this computer.. which might have been the problem
