    Denon AVR-1910 amp

    Hi folks,

I've had this sitting in a cupboard for 12 months since I replaced my A/V setup with Sonos gear. Free to a good home (preferably a small donation to a cancer charity or National Autistic Society but I'm not going to check)

You'll need to collect from Shepperton, W. London.

Fully working afaik, but I have no speakers to test it with now.

Anyone interested before I drop it on eBay for a penny?

Would you consider shipping? (With me paying the shipping cost).

Understand if you don't want the hassle of that.

Looks interesting given the inputs, was wondering about running some old(er) consoles (N64 and Wii) through it to get to HDMI, not sure how much input lag it might introduce but for not a lot of money would be interested to find out.

Are you inside or out of the ULEZ zone? I would be interested if kanoe pulls out, but early bird gets the worm.

I remember looking at this model when buying my first and only setup. I went with Pioneer in the end.

About the same time I did similar .... and since the May Sonos 'update' my (Android) Sonos app is still badly broken. I'm still fuming over that. Still, at least they knackered the app before I did the rest of the house .... which now has Bluesound Node X instead.

If I sound a bit bitter about it, yup. I hope you've had a better experience.

    P.S. Nice amp, that Denon.

    Re: Denon AVR-1910 amp

Yeah I remember the thread. I'm pretty much the standard use case though - 5.1 with a beam, 2 rears and a sub connected to a LG OLED via HDMI over ARC. Any streaming I do would be from an iPhone.

I guess that's got to be pretty much the default testing setup.

    Yeah, probably.

Mine's not complicated, though. Beam 2 attached to the TV, and a pair of ERA 100s in the bedroom, in a stereo pair. The hardware still works fine, and indeed, I updated harware driers about 3 days ago.

What's broken is the app, for me. Virtually all my listening is from my NAS. When I start the app, sometimes it finds the "local folders", sometimes not. Sometimes, the app home page is there with headings, but just blank boxes where econtent should be. Restarting it sometimes results in it finding stuff, like "services", but sometimes not.

The worst bit, for me, is I cannot add, remove or edit stuff in "Music Library", like "Folders", which are actually on the NAS. But I've moved my music from the old NAS to the new one, and there's no way to add anything to those folders, so no adding the nework path to the new NAS.

If I add folders (like an artist) or subfolders (like an album) to those EXISTING network addresses, content shows up. Eventually. Usually takes a day or two. So I can still usually listen to music, on te ERA 100s. What I can't do is finish sorting out the restructing of my home servers BECAUSE Sonos broke the damn app.

My contention .... DO NOT seriously break the old app, by shipping a half-baked beta version of the new one, and if you do, allow users to go back to the old one, that USED to woork.

Here I am, four MONTHS later, still with a substantially broken app that won't allow me to do te ONE thing I made sure to test that Sonos would do, before I bought the hardware. I even looked at KEF active speakers, and my local dealer contacted KEF support, and a conversation occured that confirmed I couldn't do what I wanted to do with KEF. Fair enough, so I didn't buy. But it DID work with Sonos, until they shipped their new version, and 4 months later, it's still broken. So is ANY trust I had in Sonos. And it isn't coming back. The rest of tthe house will now no way get Sonos speakers, and relating this exerience to friends that liked the sound of my Sonos speakers resulted in them both going with alternatives, too. Sonos are idiots for doing it this way and my anger isn't going away any time soon.

    Re: Denon AVR-1910 amp

Quick update on the Sonos thing.

went into the app today (1st Sept) and the option that's been greyed out for several months (to "Manage" what they call "Music Library" is no longer greyed out. It appears I can now edit, remove or add locations on the NAS, and options like "Refresh" have reappeared.

I haven't yet tried it, but hopefully, it's now working again. What else that was removed now is or isn't back - dunno.

In terms of my overall confidence in Sonos though, no change. That they even CAN completely bork my ability to hardware in my own home, with a cost (so far) of nearly a grand, is enough to stop me in my tracks. Had I finished the rest of the house, it would've been a LOT higher than that.

So nope no more Sonos here. Besides, already bought and installed the stuff for the rest of the house that was on my current list. Here endeth (if it works) my Sonos whinging. Still annoyed, though.

    Re: Denon AVR-1910 amp

    Spoke too soon.

When I went back next day to set up the new NAS folders, all the options to add/edit etc servers and paths that were there the day before, have <bleeping> gone again. I didn't think Sonos could wind me up more than they had but, ever inventive in ways to screw up, they managed it.
