lol, shades of grey?
So it's a 'bit' illegal but that's ok?
Or is it a 'bit too' illegal so that's not ok?
The point is, there IS no grey area, your software is either legal or it isn't.
Not too sure I see where the 'grey' bit is there.
Unless you mean that MS charging a fortune for Vista and it's multicoloured versions... cos there's a whole range of greys right there....
I think that's the crux of it, Nick, yes.
It's easy to steal something if it's not tangible... even easier if it saves you a couple hundred quid. Doesn't make it right, though.
Vista may well be overpriced, I think it is, but as somebody on HEXUS pointed out in another thread - can't remember when - if you take XP and consider how many years use you get out of it, it really isn't that expensive.
Of course, Linux is free... I like Linux.
Oh aye, Linux might be a good alternative and it's free but tbh, I just can;t be bothered with setting it up, waiting for Linux versions of drivers and the lack of support it has from the widely used, easily available software I want to use.
Sure, I could go off and hunt down Linux versions of the stuff I need, but it's a personal choice to pay the Vista price and not spend my time mucking about...
Nick. Ubuntu is getting there, and I say that from the days of using Mandrake 7... which really, really wasn't anywhere close.
People will start switching. And if enough pre-installs start shipping... well...
shame linux doesnt play games, well apart from the odd opengl one, if it did i'd use it.
on the topic of the crack, wont the modded bios's be impossible to stop so it will work forever? i mean i can see the bios emulation driver crack being foiled fairly soon but actual modded motherboard bios's i dunno how they're gonna stop that.
No, 'lol' comparing it to stealing a car etc etc it's bloody ridiculous (and hence my post taking it to the nth degree) and paints a picture of considering one crime as bad as the other (black and white). Would MS be happier people use linux rather than pirate their OS'? I'd bet not.. Of course they can't ever _say_ that - but piracy has been most beneficial to MS over the years IMHO..
Depends on what I need at the time.
If it gets converted into a media centre, then premium, otherwise basic.
Still, by choosing the correct version at the time of buying, its going to save me money. I dont think there any any "luring" involved.
You want more features - you pay more. Isnt that the same with pretty much everything in life?
