Backward compatibility isn't a big deal for an established machine - but it's very important to prop up a machine at a console launch, to make up for the limited library of the new system.

I heard about a sony press release on radio1 this morning where Sony were urging people not to go out and buy U.S/Jap imports.

There was a sound bite after the news item from someone saying the benfits of buying an imported PS3 "you can like use Japanese or American films, which like, come out a lot earlier and cheaper..." which made me laugh
