they need to make an Av-HDMI thats what they need :(
Steven, using your industry contacts any chance of finding out if a UK release is on the cards?
If it is woooo hooo! If not I'll have to wait even longer, no way I am buying the original now until the new bits are added.
More to the point, will they scam us UK folk on price?
Knowing MS..
No point in getting it over here until Video Marketplace/IPTV launchs.
I've got 12gb left on the 20GB drive... I honestly don't know what I'd do with 120gb!
Looks like a worthy improvement over the original, especailly the extra HDD space.
The only thing that springs into my mind is the price. I can imagine the new 120gb drive and the 'Elite' console itself being vastly overpriced, but we shall see.
I personally dont like the look of it in black. Since the PS3 came out the xbox console unit design looks very dated and black doesnt seem to help.
If its well priced (unlikely IMO) though its going to be great news for people looking for a cheap xbox as there could well be a flurry of the original beige ones being sold, driving down their resale price.
I'll be using the other tried, fiddly yet perfectly working method of using my main media centre based system to transcode on the fly to formats my Xbox360 can support.
This gives a wide scope of services to use in regards to purchasing online content and doesn't limit me to the pricing that microsoft or their content suppliers will set.

As for UK release dates, if you listen to http://centracomm.cachefly.net/major...'s Podcast about it.... Albert mentions that the Europe release date isn't set, but is more likely to be in the summer (possibly to coincide with a European Video Marketplace release?)
i think that is shiny toy syndrome :D (not having a go - i suffer from it badly :p ) although I have to say inthe flesh the PS3 dissapointed me in its looks, I dont know why.
I like the look of it in black, depending on trade in price for an old 360 I might get it - I am running out of space and when the video marketplace comes to the UK I will defo be using it, the HD stuff Ive d/led looks awesome
Its definately shiny toy syndrome :) I should imagine most people on here suffer from it.
My mates got a Wii, 360 and PS3 all hooked up to a Pioneer 42" top of the range TV and a £700 surround sound system and we both agree that PS3 looks the best graphically (in Motorstorn) and in the unit design. That could just be personal taste though and is probably expected since its 18 months younger than the 360.
The one and only thing I can think that should have been included in my mind is integrated wifi. £59 for a wifi adaptor is extortionate.
Does anyone know if it is still an ordinary DVD in there or they upped it to HD-DVD (now that it has built in HDMI and all)?
Phil
EDIT: Don't worry, just watched the video as linked by Tom above and it says no HD-DVD upgrade built in.
Shame as surely that would have been the perfect time to do it.
I may well buy the bigger drive for Video Marketplace as YorkieBen said, but my concern is that some movie studio or other is going to get all worried about letting 360 users send high def films over component connections. While they say there won't be any elite-only content, if HDCP becomes an issue people may be forced to upgrade...
I believe the circuitry needed for it is not in the original 360 :( Its only capable of analogue outputs.
What I haven't seen confirmed is whether the HDMI port on the elite is HDCP-enabled for the HD-DVD add-on......if it isn't there could be a lot of people up-in-arms once they start enabling the ICT flag on HD-DVDs.
As a non owner, I am pleased with this but why no wireless adapter?
And the official one is £50 which is silly money!
I want one!! I have wanted a 360 since they were launched but have never been able to afford one really. I will get one and when I do it will be this version.
Don't care about the HDD or HDMI (don't have and don't plan on getting an HDTV) but it is BLACK :D:D:D Finally it will match my hifi and won't look like every other fashion accessory!
Does anybody know what version of HDMI is supported on the unit 1.1 / 1.3 ? the PS3 supports 1.3 and offers quite a few improvements over the original HDMI 1.1 spec
did they improve the cooling of the system? if so then i may concider getting one after all
Gizmondo posted an interview with Albert Penello (Director of Global Marketing for Microsoft's Xbox 360)
http://www.xbox-scene.com/
Gizmodo: There was talk about how the processor was going to be cooler-running and perhaps quieter.
* Penello: No. we haven't announced anything like that.
George, the only confirmation of a European release so far is 'Summer'. It will definately be coming to Europe, and it will definately be after the US gets it first.
The main purpose of the larger hard disk is to better utilise the Video Marketplace which is currently only available in the US. It's expected that Video Marketplace will launch this year in the UK and possibly Europe and I therefore expect the launch of both that and the 360 Elite to coincide.
I do! I want a black Xbox and a PS3.... and a 24inch Monitor to connect them and my PC.... and an ATi X2900XTX or GF8900.....Quote:
Its definately shiny toy syndrome I should imagine most people on here suffer from it.
They have removed some of the things that made 360s look lame next to PS3 - bad looks (in my opinion anyway), noisy (assuming this version will have the CPU on a smaller process to make it cooler), and the small HDD.
However the PS3 still tempts me - and I won't be able to resist it when MGS4, GTA4 and the new Gran Turismo are all out, I can run FAH when I'm not playing games, I can upgrade the hard drive on my own, run Linux if I feel like it, connect it to either Wifi or Gigabit ethernet..... *drools*
Well the purchasing manager has got back to me after getting in touch with one of the U.K distributors and there official line was, ''No info for U.K release just U.S information''
Personally he seems to think they may release in the U.K closer to XMAS to kill sales of the PS3...
Thats way too long and I wouldn't wait that long for it, by that time they'll have sold all the black ones.
no way @ all that the xbox 360 looks dated.
sure, the ps3 looks gorgiouse. but the 360 design looks just as fresh and modern. There just very diffrent takes on the same theme.
Karlos
I dont beleive this, I have waited till Sunday to treat myself to a 360, it arrived TODAY and now I read this :angst:
Although on the bright side, I don't really see any major differences, the larger HD is gonna be available separatley if you need it, and is there any quality improvement over component/HDMI.
I do plan to buy a 1080p screen so this is the one thing stopping me unboxing my nice new toy - and built in upscaling, what do I do
I wanna play crackdown and gears of war!!
I'd stick with the one you got, after all its sitting in front of you. There is always some something new just around the corner to wait for, you could wait a lifetime to buy the next big thing because there is always a new next big thing.
Plus without two TVs next to each other the layman can never tell the difference between 1080 and 720, even two same brands next to each other I often get it wrong. (the company I work for does all this AV stuff).
Don't panic and get playing!
How can sad-old-Sony hope to compete with an updated XBox 360 - complete with Live - and the ability to play against PC gamers - at half the price ?
Also, developers need to 'follow the money' and develop games that people will buy...
...with an installed user base of way past 10 million, the XBox 360 represents a monty-hoard of consumer-base-money that's just waiting to be plundered...
...whilst the head-honchos @ sad-old-Sony are on their knees every night , praying for something to help them overcome the MASSIVE 18 month lead they have handed gargantuan Gates and his gilt-edge game machine
Fantasticly interesting read.
I was considering the plunge on a 360, no I wonder if it is worth the wait, although doubtful as there is not even a date, for which to wait.
Yeah I have decided I am not waiting anymore, no release date and the product manage at Scan who phoned MS says they are saying maybe even Xmas (does that last bit even make sense?).
And no wireless integrated and no reduction in die size for the chip means to me its not worth waiting for, its a great product already so I'll get one anyway.
I guess the sensible thing to do would be to get shot of my bog-standard 360 just now for a decent price, and buy a PS3 now, and the Elite later.
But I'll probably never fill the current 20 Gb HDD, and I don't have any spare HDMI sockets anyway. Likin' the black though
Wish we had some firm info about release
MS have favored HDMI 1.2 over 1.3.
