jesus, I hate stuff like this. Fair enough, give it an 18 rating but surely adults are old enough to decide if the game is too bleak for them or not?
It's blatently trying to stop kids playing it, because retailers and/or parents don't take the ratings given seriously. It's the problem with alot of things, too often the ignorant are catered for, especially if they are the majority. BAH
Edit> oh and yeah, I also played the original and didn't think it was all that. I got bored of walking after guys with a shopping bag.
It's banned in the UK - must be REEAALLLYYY good.
/goes to isohunt.com to see if it can be downloaded.
Surely a lot of people will think like this?
I'm sure this sort of press pumped up the sales of GTA and that Bully game.
When I was a youngster I just HAD to get my hands on the original GTA "cos you could run over krishnas and shoot people and there was blood in it!"
My System: Coolermaster Centurion 5 (black) case, Intel E6750 Core2Duo, Tagan Easy-Con 530W, Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI, OCZ 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC, Samsung SpinPoint 200Gb SATA2 / 2 x Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200Gb SATA, 256Mb Sapphire ATI PCI-E X1950PRO, Creative X-Fi Xtreme 7.1, 19" Daewoo W9ZQ Black Widescreen TFT, 4Mb Virgin Cable Broadband (formerly Blueyonder) with Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G and DD-WRT firmware.
But of course and even if it wasn't banned people would still think like this... although it is interesting how an act of undue concern for our youngers is always an irresponsible one.
Naturally, I think the best approach would be to encourage paraents to get involved with what they're children are into at home, especially with computer games...

Sorry to bring up an unimportant point, but banned or not banned - is it any good?
Crazy I know, but its how I normally decide if I'm going to buy a game or not.
Surely, the reason for the ban is all from the arguments that got kicked up about the first one. I think the main problem with it was that parents didn't like the game they bought their kids, but they've got only themselves to blame. It's even worse here than America, since there, you only have these little logos that are a guide to who should play the game, over here, those stamps are the law. Parents don't buy their kids a 18 rated DVD without checking what the content is (or knowing that their kid is mature enough to handle anything the movie/game industry can throw at them). But for some reason, most parents think "Oh it's a game, it'll have cute bunnies hopping around, the 18 rating is there because in this game, bunnies can get run over and theres blood everywhere, not because it's got crack addicts mauling innocent people like you get in 18 rated films, nono, this is a game, no reason to pay attention to the 18 label".
I think a petition should be started for Manhunt 2 to become unbanned, and whoever was responsible for banning it should be court ordered to slap him/herself firmly in the face.
Another petition should be signed by all members of the world that anyone who buys an 18 game for their child, and then goes and complains about it, should be culled.
perfect opportunity for me to buy a region 1 version and play it on me us ps3
Well, I'm always on the lookout for good, mature - though not necessarily violent - single player games, and the concensus from sites who have played it seems to be that the Wii controll mechanics definitely complement the game. This may be due to the feeling imbued when actively seeming to play a part of any gratuiuty... but none the less, its meant to have a decent story to follow, which they were hoping would be compelling enough to make you overlook that there may not actually be THAT much depth. But as I've stated in other Wii threads, this console makes me want unique gaming experiences - and this would fall under that category.
I think this thread is a perfect example of why Rockstar WANTS it banned.
If its banned... People want it....
I smell cunning marketing stunt

They can't ban violent books, or artwork, why should the be able to ban the sale of a game? I can understand limiting access to it, shove an 18 on it by all means, but an outright ban is ridiculous.

Thinking about it then - how is this any worse, for example, than the Eli Roth film Hostel. Now, that wasnt a great film, but it would take someone really stern to say that it wasnt a tad gory... And that managed to get out fine in the cinema, and into Woolworths. There is a slight flaw in the "Ban it and then everyone will get it" plan, in that, well, it wont be so easy to get...
Was listening to the news on Radio1 on the way home and its the first game to be banned in the UK since... Carmageddon! And that was subsequently overturned. But a spokesperson from Rockstar allegedly said that they wont be appealing... grumble....
