so if its 2x 8800's (2x 8800GTS 512's?) why the hell are they calling it a 9XXX

I hate this 'double up' thing which they have done - they did it on the 79xx GX2 and it didn't bode well for them
It probably won't be called a 9800 when it comes out, more likely a 8800 GX2 or even a 8900. The 9800 name was probably a bit of guesswork from whoever leaked it (HardOCP?).
I think the number change is due to the change in DX spec. Incidentally, it's probably not but is it actually a 1GB memory buffer or just a 512MB?
Kinda reminds me of the X1800XT.

The price of it seems insane as well. Only for the people with really deep pockets IMHO.
the naming is daft.all G92 based SKU's should be 8900 branded.

True true, I'm hating how they are jumping up to the top card in the next series instead of progressing. Like if the 8600 was like the rest of its x600 brothers it would beat the pants off a 7900 or 7800, but it doesn't. Its like the 8800 are the next step up but they name it as the top card because they can't make even more powerful ones.
