Re: Nearly 50,000 sign Save XP petition

I have a feeling that when Windows 7 is released, Vista's share of the OS pie will still be lower, or at least drop faster, than XPs.

The longer Vista is out, the more convinced I am that it's the modern equivalent of Windows ME. It's certainly a better ME than ME was, but by the time Vista is really required, really faster, or really more useful, it will be overshadowed by something better.

Ooh, is this another pointless online petition that will change nothing, along with a thread full of people who fail to understand the reason that an OEM license is cheaper than a retail license, then claiming that companies are evil because they seek to make money? Awesome - never seen one of these before.

That means MS would have to put all their resources into XP for a couple of years and 2 more SP. But most ppl don't realise just how many ignored bugs there are in XP. Its all about the sales, F*** YOU Microsoft!!!!

Sending out some sympathy to all those creative individuals who made MS billions in the last few years and only got pennies from it (relatively)...I'm of course talking about the touch screen technology you see all around you...iphone and soon to be 100s of "new" LOL products with the MS technology LOOOOL. (Created by a team of NY phd students and bought and relabled as an MS invention) welcome to the evil corporate world we live in.

If you are an IT professional then maybe you shouldve tried a bit harder to get Vista to work properly.
Many of us have with just a tiny bit of patience and understanding.

My gripe with Vista is that when building my system i thought i would save money and buy the OEM vista ultimate x64.. Why the hell is this not transferrable to my new cpu/motherboard etc??? crazy
Err...because its OEM...You tried to save cash by buying the cheaper version and got your fingers burnt.
Did you not know that what an OEM OS is?

Re: Nearly 50,000 sign Save XP petition

The thing about the current vista upgrade cycle is that it is all stick and no carrot. If MS where doing their job properly, then no one in their right mind would chose to run XP unless they have some sort of very unusual requirement, such as drivers for antiquated hardware, in the same way that nobody these days runs DOS expect for special reasons.

Instead we have a situation where IT professionals, and enthusiasts alike are skeptical about Vista a year after it launched, and are swapping horror stories about flaky drivers, OS bugs, and overzealous WGA. Microsoft are making the situation worse by forcing users to take a jump into the dark and making it hard to go back to XP. If you read the article companying the petition, you will see the situation mirrors that with windows Me, that was widely considered to be worse than Win98, but superceeded it.

In my view, MS could ease the situation for enthusasts by adjusting the licensing so that anyone with a valid copy of Vista can run a dual boot system with XP, or if they really don't like Vista they can remove it entirely and run XP using their Vista license. If Vista had been available under those terms a year ago when I built my system I would probably be running Vista by now, but at the time there where so many horror stories circulating I did not want to risk it over XP.

The other thing MS could do is to get serous about fixing their own bugs, and add a compatabiltiy layer, so that for hardware that does not need high performance old XP drivers can be used. Solaris has such a compatability layer, and if you have a strange enough reason to do so you can run drivers for a 24MHz Sparc box (from 1992) on the latest 1.4GHz 64bit 8 core Ultra Space Niagara II.

I LOL at all of this XP loving. Both XP and Vista are crap. Vista not quite so much.
In fact all easily available OS's are crap and have been for about 10 years now. That includes OSX anything and any Linux variant.
There used to be a time when everyone else made small, lightweight, responsive, user friendly OS's and Microsoft made the crap. Now everyone has followed their lead.
