The next Windows (7) will be to Vista what Win98 was to Win95.

As I'll only be accused of being a Vista fanboi I'm going to add nothing to this thread other than to point out that (as has already been mentioned) an OS taking full advantage of the RAM available to it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thought Win95 (the final release anyway, the USB one?) was pretty solid, though I'll admit I never really used it initially, still being well and truly planted in DOS.

What people forget about Vista is that XP was exactly the same. Exactly. Pre-SP1 it was arguably worse for support, and very few picked up on. It's not the absolute standard for everything. Vista's only real weakness in my eyes is that on the surface it doesn't offer anything fundamentally different for the user.

Or perhaps what XP Pro was to Win2K?

win2K was fantastic, and a giant leapon from NT4. But it needed SP3 for it to become settled. XP has taken until SP2.

Will we see Vista settled after just a single SP? I'd like to think so, but i some how doubt it.

I wouldn't be surprised if vista becomes looked at a little like Win98SE. People either stayed with Win95/98 or waited for WinXP.

Even though they had this release planned before Vista was released?

QFT. Seems a large cross section of people really don't understand the amount of time it takes to build an OS from the ground up.

Version 7.0.00 will (in theory) be RTM, so all beta builds will be 6.x.x. At least that's my understanding

    Unlikely.

Hopefully the author realises that memory footprint is not the same thing as cache memory, and his comment was about the former and not taking advantage of all the RAM available as Linux and Vista do.

Did I have a post deleted? Sorry, I'm sure I made a comment along the lines of his review is strikingly similar to supposed 'longhorn' features that could be seen on a youtube video. *shrug*
