Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

hows it working for gaming, anyone got problems? I don't have that, but theres a update that seems to indicate that it is required before further updates can be done. so guessing thats the fixed pre-requisite file before the SP can be installed. le Inq seemed to indicate a different version of this pre-patch file screwed over a few systems according to an article yesterday. different file for x64/x86 so maybe x86 has been delayed till they can check into that problem.

Weird. It didn't show up for my x64 system until AFTER I installed two drivers it had for my motherboard; one a networking and the other for storage. Anyways, happily installing SP1 right now!

Doesn't show up for me running on 64-bit Home Premium.

Did just un-install SP1 refresh however.

EDIT: ah, just checked for updates, installed some crappy optional updates for windows live sign in assistant and similar things and then checked again, and SP1 is now available for download.
    Taking the plunge now.

I might just need to restart to get it in that case .

EDIT - Yay, I was right. 120MB download for me btw.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

I would assume that, as MS are having problems with some third-party drivers, the extra time to deploy SP1 is down to testing and certifying hardware with it.

Given that x64 version of Vista are forced (well, coerced) into using signed drivers only, MS have a very good idea of what drivers are being used and can therefore certify much faster.

That seems like a reasonable explanation to me, at least.

I'm off to see whether I can get SP1 final now. I've got the RC on at the moment.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

I was using the rc1 build of sp1 and on the desktop in the bottom right hand corner is stated that it was a build..
Today thats gone and the system information states sp1, v744..
Would it be right in saying sp1 has installed automatically? i leave it on 24/7 and it does appear that it restarted overnight????

I've got an OEM version of Ultimate x64 and have everything up to date apart from optional language packs and I have no SP1 available for update.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

I got the prompt to update this morning. Went to download the update and it gets to about 17% of the download and bombs out saying there is an error every time I try to download it.

    Any ideas?

Pretty much a fresh install of Vista 64. I have been getting updates no problem up until this one.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

Just uninstalled the sp1 rc refresh (that was a drag, it messed with my system big time after the uninstall, it reloaded a bunch of stuff) last night. A few updates appeared but still no sp1. Keep on checking but not found anything. Check my machine on the left to see how it compares to those who've got it.

Also, I'm not signed up to MSDN or Windows Live, maybe that affects it.

EDIT: Go to Tweakguides, he's noted that there are prerequisite updates. Double Edit: Nope, MS closed that loophole.

I got this earlier today, how weird - I presumed it was the official release day (Vista home prem x64)

I'm not signed up to anything special either, just plain old windows.

Whoa. SP1 has cut my boot time by MORE than half. I used to take 90+ seconds to boot. I could never figure it out because I used to boot in about 30 seconds. With SP1, I'm even LESS than that! I don't know what it did, but I'm lovin' it!

Re: Vista Service Pack 1 deployed for x64-based systems

grr, seeing as it looks like a lot of network stuff has increased in speed, aswell as file copying i'd like to get it but it won't show up. Might be down to not being activated, its a legal copy, i'm just playing with a phenom and wondering about getting shot of it as i have had a couple unexplainable crashes when encoding and even a couple cores missing on some reboots, mobo issue maybe? either way activating when i might switch up mobo's soon seems like hassel.

Why they haven't just whacked it on download centre i don't know. not sure if a dodgey version is identical of has had anything removed either so might not be the best source to get it from. Seems silly, if its final its final it isn't getting better, quicker people get it and word of less networking issues and some other fixes gets around the better for MS, can't understand the delay.
