Hehe, what I meant is that it felt more like a toy than a UMPC... but I guess the first to the market is always going to be the one that others improve upon.

That said, I can't see it being more than a year away before we see proper SSD laptops... at HUGE prices but fully functioning lappys nonetheless.

ps. killed your double post there for you... still got the post-weekend binge shakes?

Thanks - no idea what happened - hit edit and it doubled it up when I updated the changes - weirdness!

I think it feels like a toy cos it's tiny The competition has to get the same sort of spec to sway me - the fact it's got plenty of USB ports, a camera, a card reader, good speakers/mic and a decent screen (quality wise) make it very useful for me. The missus loves the camera (for example) for skyping as she can wander round the house showing stuff to her (distant) relatives. Little things - but it's the sum of all the features packed in there, the form factor and the price that's made it a runaway hit I think.

I like the look of the eee 2 but it has two problems - the speakers are now underneath (the eee is brilliant for watching shows off my media centre because the sound's remarkably loud) and the price has shot up. As I've said elsewhere I think Asus should keep the storage low to keep the price down.
I may well be in the market for another cheapo-UMPC soonish and so i'm really interested to see the alternatives.

I had said in the past that I was waiting for the ~10" version of the Eee before getting one, but I think I'll see what the rest of the market comes up with over the next few months.

I'm looking forward to these... I was hoping that I'd be able to use my mobile phone as a modem on one with O2 with the new unlimited web they brought out thisd month, but it's for use on the phone only- if you use the phone as a modem you still get charged

Is that 5 USB ports on the side?!?!?!

looks like two - towards the front. I think the bloke said a 'couple' in the tv thing.
3 on the eee for comparison.

That block of 5 holes at the side could easily be a vent.

Good scoop at the end Nick, I wonder how much these chaps get paid to work for pc manufacturers, you'd think they would be a bit more enthusiastic "yeah like we could do it in a number of colours" "yeah we can put more memory in" zzzzzzz

I could do a better job than that and at least sound interested
