My guess is that the BBC got it because they offered (and paid for) all the various different media types. ITV's download content only seems to have been hashed together very recently, possibly in an effort to show bernie they could do it.
ITV let it go, they didn't lose it or get outbid. They'd just entered the 3rd year of a 5 year deal. Widely thought that they let it go to fund their Champions League coverage, which as far as I can see, they got a worse deal than they had originally. :\

There seems to be a bit of a campaign on some sites to get all the Top Gear presenters involved. I truly hope it doesn't succeed. No doubt the Beeb will just have to get them involved in some way, but I hope it's minor.

I don't think Hammond would make a good anchor man, as on most shows outwith Top Gear he's been like a fish out of water. Especially live shows, and his own show, most cringeworthy. He's great on Top Gear, as are the other guys, but the only one I can watch away from TG is James May.

F1 has been dumbed down enough to accommodate all the new fans that have come just to cheer on a Brit, can't hlp but think any Top Gear hosted show would be dumber still.

That said, I'd prefer them to Gary Lineker. He's already spoiled Beeb golf for me, please don't let him near F1.

I suppose as long as it's on BBC HD I won't mind too much. I'll just listen to the commentary on the radio
