whislt multi touch is cool i think it actually makes sense on the Eee.

on the air its pointless, the screen is perfectly large, how often are people zooming in and out in an app that couldn't simply use the scroll bar.

but the Eee has a lowish resolution screen, that almost begins to make such an idea worthwhile.

but its still a bit pointless imo, espesually when they should be focusesing on low price imo.

I'm not convinced it'd be useful to me - but then i've not really used multi touch except on the iphone briefly (O2 shop). What I do like here though is that Asus are really playing around with the spec - there's obviously going to be a lot 'in the box' but we'll have to wait and see what materialises at retail.

This doesn't confirm that it's going to have GPS, it says nothing that isn't mentioned on the hexus news page.

Nothing will be confirmed until we see a retail machine reviewed - how's that?

ahh damn, I thought you had some inside knowledge from somewhere

I'm setting up self-employed as a home computer engineer and one of these will be a great gadget to carry round with me, for having my own PC on home visits + to print invoices in the car... Is there a specific car psu for the EEE 700?... and any recommendations for a cheap to run portable printer?

It's ideal for that - I bring it round when i (inevitably) get called by friends to sort problems and it's most handy. You can pick up car inverters (12v->240v) cheaply enough (and of course they'll run other things too). No idea on the printing side sorry

Seems like it would be a drain on the car battery to be converting it from 12v > 240v then back down the the laptop 12-3v... maybe they'll bring out a car charger for the new model if it has GPS... cause most people are going to be using GPS in the car!

for car use i doubt you'd want GPS integrated into it.

this is becuase GPS is inheriantly line of site.

what you want is a wireless (lets say bluetooth) device which is tiny, and can be put up at the front of the car, under the glass windscreen (saterlight data dosen't mind that). You don't want it built into the laptop for this, because the roof etc, will bloke the signal.

    Yeah it's horribly lossy DC-AC->DC - how's this DC/DC one suit you?

Depends on the chipset used - i've got a bluetoother receiver which is so sensitive it can be popped in the glove box - it'll even get a fix indoors.

Re: ASUS Eee PC 900 packs a touchscreen and maybe GPS too

this market is really starting to take flight now, I can see the point about the Eee diverging from its original purpose but where do you draw the line?

The GPS is particularly appealing, I was thinking of getting an EEE just to play with but if I can use it as a sat nav as well I'd more tempted because I need a sat nav for my job, I can justify it.

Any word on the MSI Wind?(that what its called?) I'll be interested to see what MSI can deliver, word is that it will be more powerful than the EEE but be matching if not lower in price.... longer battery life to apparently

I think you'll need a different adaptor for the new eee though (as a sidenote)

I have a perfect space in my car (an astra) where I plan to build a custom cradle to hold the laptop infront of the middle air blower vents that I never use. It would be perfect position for line of sight through the windscreen. Also perfect position for use and viewing. I imagine most mid-sized cars would have space just off center towards the passenger side of the dashboard to place it too... and all large cars have a huge ledge it could be placed on.

Hope the price won't be pushed up due to the laptop battery factory in south korea news that's on the main page... or even worse that the release date delayed!
