Re: 160GB solid-state drives coming from Intel - perhaps even in Q2 2008

I could easily replace the main 120GB drive in my laptop with a 64GB SSD and still have oodles of space (a 32GB drive would do, but it would be tight).

That would leave the second 320GB for my outlook data files, downloads and photos. Everything else is on my NAS(s)

But lets see what price these things end up at in 6 months.

some of you are complaining about capacity and saying that 160GB isn't enough.. well what about the Raptor drives? they're only 76 or 150GB.. so 160GB on a SSD is a lot and will probably work out around the same price as the Raptor and performance will be much better..

Re: 160GB solid-state drives coming from Intel - perhaps even in Q2 2008

My system uses 12GB at the moment. The rest is data. I'd be happy with a 32GB or 64GB solid state drive for the system. The rest can be shoved onto a (few) large SATA drive(s), which can be powered off after n minutes of inactivity. I'm not sure if solid state going to be overall faster than a good SATA drive for desktop use, but at least it's silent and consumes less electricity.

The silence is why I'd consider it. I could probably swap out a case fan, too.
