    8GB=not worth it. The only thing that crashed with a disabled page file with 4GB was Vmware server (running on Vista X64)
    It still crashes with 8GB. Still, page file disabled and bar the VMware server issue, everything is fine so far.
    It is also significantly faster.
    It also takes ages for superfetch to fill the memory

    Hi badass. I notice you've been quick to update your Hexus "My System" specs with your new upgrade. What did you have before? You say "It is also significantly faster". Significantly faster than what?

    I'd hate for you to say you already 4gb, as that's what I'm replacing my 2gb with to see if Crysis, which is currently a high-quality slideshow, will improve. Currently, at any setting, at any resolution I have the same thing.
    -> 800x600@low = slideshow. (My starting reference.)
    -> 1920x1200@V.high = slideshow.
    DX9/10 doesn't affect the situation.

    I get about 1fps IF I'm lucky.

    The cutscenes are hilarious - not. Prophet and Psycho say something, and I hear it in real-time, but the video rendering is at least twice as slow as it should be. Even the early days of .avi files weren't THIS bad!

    Appreciate your reply. (& anyone else's, for that matter.)

    1FPS? Seriously? With a 9600GT? Crysis should run on 2GB fine... it's not that badly programmed (well OK, it is, but still).

    Is the hard drive continually thrashing from the off while playing - I don't mean a flicker every second or so - I mean is the light almost constantly on? If it isn't, then RAM isn't the issue.

    More importantly, how have you got a Nehalem listed in you "My System"?

    Re: Headlines - Corsair: 4GiB of RAM better than 2GiB!

    hmm baius.. your computer must not be installed properly.... using the inbuilt demos I got 15fps in 1024x768 in low details and this was with a 7 year old 1.8ghz athlon, with 512mb ram on a now dead Radeon 9600.. the videos and lip synch was near perfect, and no noticable slowdown (from 15fps) on the carrier deck level...

    there must be some massive conflicts on your setup to only get 1fps... or stuff not installed.. you have put the mobo chipset drivers on, and not just left it as windows default drivers havent you? could account for major slowdowns..

    unless your just looking at the screen and going "hmm that must be 1fps, look the screen flickers"..

    back to ram.. its just now a question of getting the 2 x PC6400 4gb sets, or two dominator 8500 sets, and giving my sister the ram cooler from the second set, she does need it her systems hot... then i just need money to buy it..

    Re: Headlines - Corsair: 4GiB of RAM better than 2GiB!

    It "feels" like 1fps. It might be 2fps. Regardless, it's slow. I've recently - this very evening, in fact - upgraded to 4gb, so I'm going to have another little "play" with my new install of Windows soon... (Wish me luck, por favor.)

    this_is_gav: Nehalem - overclocked. Just to rub it in... Nah, I got told off for having a long signature, a while back. So, instead of having all my current and future PCs in my sig, so I like to think I'm more succinct now.

    stevie lee, I have not, and never have, installed chipset drivers. I consider myself reasonalby "up there" with computer no-ledge, but have never heard of doing that. I know that you need nVidia/ATI(/AMD) drivers, and BDA TV Tuner drivers (if running VMC) - but that's pretty much it. Windows Update updates the Realtek Network Card. iMon updates me of new software, etc...

    I'll look into what you say about the chipset - thanks.

    So... I know you proved that I'm not an expert already, but to an extent I can answer your question about Dominator RAM.

    As you must know, money will always buy you one or two extra %, in computer terms. If you can afford dominator, and it the extra performance matters to you AND will give you value (compared to other things you could buy with the financial difference), do buy the dominator. Otherwise... don't.

    You absolutely need to install the chipset drivers.

    I for one am definitely upgrading to 4GB and I'm going to choose 2x2GB so I can expand to 4x2GB when it makes sense. Looking forward to the performance improvement (I'm even considering turning off the Windows page file for my new build!).

    IIRC some things won't run if you turn the pagefile off completely........

    Thanks for your response. I've got some good news to tell, even without the chipset drivers having been installed.

    Having installed 4gb, got new GFx drivers and re-installed Vista, Crysis ran reasonably smoothly.

    [ Not only that, it ran on "Ultra Quality". (Special mod on the Internet, that upgrades Very High quality, giving better view distances, higher quality vegetation, etc. Available here.) ]

    I didn't notice the lip-sync problems I'd detailed earlier. The only "issue" (which I expected) was some slow down in levels with snow storms, so I simply dropped to high quality, and was OK.

    I'll still have a look at the chipset drivers, though (which I haven't yet done). Asus' website (for P5b-VM) isn't particularly user-friendly, iirc, but I'll wade through.

    You need to install the chipset driver. You can get it from ASUS or Intel.

    Now done - didn't notice a dramatic difference, tbh, but at least I know it's NOT that, if I encounter difficulties.

    Thanks all.
