Whether you like Microsoft or not. Gotta admit that they are great showmen and give the consumer exactly what they want.
They have the flair and style that just grabs attention and doesn't let go.

Re: Headlines - An impressive first day at E3 for Microsoft and its Xbox 360
There's quite a lot of interesting info over at Major Nelson too.(*edit*:I see this has already been covered in earlier news item... sorry!)
Being able to install games and read from the HDD, therefore reducing the roooooar from the CD drive, seems like a good thing. Or is it a cynical thing to get everyone to buy bigger HDD's?
Also, adding support for some 16:10 resolutions (1440x900, 1680x1050) is pretty handy too, especially for anyone using a PC monitor. I imagine it's simply scaling, but it'll put an end to picture stretching for folk that don't have monitors with an 'aspect' mode or similar.

The feature doesn't really interest me. The drive isn't that noisy, well I don't notice it that much anymore. I only have the 20GB Xbox 360 so I doubt I'll put games on my HDD.

Re: Headlines - An impressive first day at E3 for Microsoft and its Xbox 360
tbh the feature of installing games onto the hdd is just a gimmick, even the 60gb hard drive would be full after about 10games, how will this affect piracy? people could just copy the game and then trade the game in/take back, this in someways is good as it will kinda make developers go for the pc again lol.
Good amount of announcements though.

You need to take the earplugs out then :P
I really hate the noise the 360 makes, when there are two running in my living room, its so nice on the ear when the machines are shut down :)
As for the installing onto hdd, i just wonder when the first forced install happens and everyone starts moaning about it on forums, ala PS3. But i have to agree with Bigblue here, its a cynical move my MS to sell the new 60gb and the reduced price 120gb, both at rip off prices.

You must have a way quieter drive than me :) Mine is awful, I thought it might be faulty, but the ones on display when I went back to the shop were just as noisy. I'd trade it in if I thought a new one would be better.

I'm sure it'll be similar to the PS3 and PC, you'll still need the disc in the drive to play the game, it just won't be getting accessed as much.

Re: Headlines - An impressive first day at E3 for Microsoft and its Xbox 360
To me the big news so far from E3 is that sony managed to lose another big exclusive with FF13 being released on xbox 360 at the same time as it is on PS3.
It seems that all the Sony exclusives of the last generations are going cross platform whilst Microsoft are keeping their exclusives and even adding new ones to the mix

I've never seen anything from Square-Enix to say that FFXIII was a PS3 exclusive, they are a multi-platform company so it makes sense to release FFXIII on the 360 outside of Japan.

FF games are usually single console releases arent they?

Yes and no. They have content on all platforms, they are not exclusive to any one format. You can't assume anything nowadays. The cost of development is massive and they need to recoup their costs. The 360 version is going to be a port of the PS3 version, they just need to learn how to compress Blu-ray down to a DVD. I wonder if they will implement installing to the Hdd, that will cause an uproar :)

ok Square enix do have content on different formats but the core Final fantasy game has always been single platform.
Since ff7 the main series has been playstation exclusive. THis will be the first game in the main series that has been cross platforum.
I know that this generation of consoles has seriously upped the cost of platform exclusices but Sony has always put a lot of emphasis on their exclusive games like GTA and FF and now this generation they have lost them.

And before FF7 Nintendo was the console of choice. What does it matter if it goes to 360 as well? Oh shock, Square-Enix want to make some money.

tought luck mate its going to be multi disk weather you like it or not. or its going to be a cut down version of the ps3 version so if its the latter, these sony fanboys dont have anything to worrie about has the ps3 will have the best version.
either go multi or cut half of the cutscenes and texture details:) if you MS fans want FF13, expect either the two.

Re: Headlines - An impressive first day at E3 for Microsoft and its Xbox 360
FF has always been multidisc anyway, its one of the best guides to how much you've done.
Lets just not forget that xbox360 is the best platform for multi platform games.... if a game has been released on multiple platforms the 360 seems to constantly be a better platform for them.
As for what takes the space for these games, its not the textures its the movies.

What has any of my comments to do with fanboys? All i've pointed out is that MS don't like the idea of multi-disc.

I personally have no problem with multi-disc, but that won't happen, i'll be buying the PS3 version :)
Only reason for 360 versions being better is because they have ported over to PS3. This time the 360 gets the port :)

The link for Halo Blue is missing a H, and thus using the mysterious TTP Protocol.
Firefoxes Crashed.
